We create video content about local restaurants in the Coachella Valley. We strive to avoid posting negative video reviews because we genuinely want local businesses to succeed and showcase their best. As part of our process, before we decide to feature a restaurant, we like to try it out ourselves. While we always hope for positive experiences, this visit revealed that Casa Blanca has some areas for improvement.
To start on a positive note, the mezcal margarita was excellent, and the atmosphere and decor were vibrant and inviting. The vibes are very friendly and welcoming. If you're looking for a fun place to watch sports, this place is (almost) perfect. The potential is off the charts.
Unfortunately, the food is where things suffered. The salsa was watery and had zero substance. No chunks of tomato, just liquid that runs off the chip as soon as you pick it up.
The guacamole tasted rancid (possibly from a tomato that had gone bad). When we pointed this out to the waiter, we made it clear that we weren't asking him to comp anything, but rather to inform the chef. We appreciated the waiter’s gesture of offering a complimentary cocktail, but it was overly sweet and not to our taste.
The peppers for the chiles guerreritos were undercooked and almost raw. They were stuffed with baby shrimp that had no flavor. The cheese featured in this dish was (we think) a Mexican blend, but it was not fully melted. We would suggest something like Oaxaca cheese instead.
One of my "test dishes" for Mexican restaurants is chicken enchiladas. These tasted like they contained canned chicken, and the sauce was basic. Instead of using a Mexican crème, they just piled on a lot of sour cream.
We genuinely hope Casa Blanca takes this feedback to heart, as we would love to revisit and potentially feature them in the future. We’re rooting for them to make the improvements needed to match their great atmosphere with equally great food. We would be happy to update this review in the future if the quality of the...
Read moreWe went to Casa Blanca Restaurant yesterday for the first time since things shut down last year for Covid. I had been reading the reviews that had been written for the restaurant recently and thought things had changed for the worse since we'd been there last year. I am glad we decided to try for ourselves. We arrived around 4:30 p.m. and were greeted promptly and escorted to our table. She asked for our drink order shortly after being seated. My husband ordered their house Margarita and a tamarind drink to go with. I, however, just ordered a large ice water. The drinks arrive in about 4 minutes and my husband raved how tasty the margarita and the tamarind drink was. I had ordered combo #58 taco dorados with chicken and my husband ordered the carnitas fajitas. After waiting about 15 or so minutes, our food arrived. My husband's fajitas arrived sizzling on the cast iron dish, with his rice and beans and fixins on a separate dish. My chicken tacos were delicious having crunchy shells stuffed with fresh lettuce, tomato, and cheese. The rice had a nice flavor with bits of finally chopped vegetables mixed in. His carnitas fajitas were so delicious, nice and tender and full of flavor with caramelized onions and bell peppers. I tried them myself and agreed. I think I will order them next time we come. I am glad that we tried this place again. My only complaint is that the staff were not wearing masks. Two weeks ago we went to a Mexican restaurant in Rancho Mirage on Highway 111and they were all wearing masks. At the end of July we went to a Mexican Restaurant in Cathedral City and they two were all wearing mask. I felt safer in those environments. By wearing masks it shows that you care about your customers and...
Read moreThis is by far the worst dining experience my spouse and I have had in the desert since 2012. Before COVID Casablanca serves great Mexican food and "had" great service with a friendly and inviting atmosphere.
During this visit we were promptly seated underneath a television that was playing a pre baseball game no one in the restaurant was watching. The volume was so loud that my spouse and I could not hold a conversation. I asked our waitress if she could turn the sound down or off but, she blew that off so we asked to be reseated. She reseated us in the Booth adjacent to us but it was just as bad. So we moved two booths further. Passing some customers on the way they agreed the television should not be broadcasting the game.
Once Jazmine our waitress took our drink orders we ordered two chavelas and two waters. It took forever to get our chavelas but, she forgot bring water. So she took our order which included a second request for water and promptly disappeared. I watched her do a lot of talking to staff with no focus on customers. The restaurant was not busy at this time.
Finally our dinner arrived and I made my THIRD request for water. The water never came. While we were eating dinner, my spouse walked to the service area to ask for the FOURTH time for water. Finally Jazmine serves out water with fresh squized attitude "here it is ok? it's here!" Not at anytime did Jazmine make us feel welcome. Instead she spent the rest of the evening standing in a far corner glaring at us.
I would have given this review a 0 stars, however, you have to give at least one and, the restaurant deserves better. So I give the restaurant three stars for the food 0 stars for the service.
We will not be back nor would we reccomend Casa...
