Sunshine Cafe does bring the Sunshine to its dishes. This lowkey, cozy, and hidden location is a gem in the Cathedral City area. This was my first time at this diner and the food was very memorable. I want to go back for seconds, but the portions they offer won't let you fit it all in. This small quiet family inspired diner has the vibe that makes you feel like you are dining at your grandma's or great aunt's house. There are no frills to distract you from the food. This location appears to be very clean for a so called "hole in the wall" type diner. An A+ for me.
The staff is very quiet but very welcoming and inviting. We arrived and all the tables were full but they offered us seating at the counter. The counter is low seating, so no high chairs. As soon as some patrons were done eating, we were able to move our seating to one of their cozy booths.
This location is conveniently located right off Hwy 111 on Cathedral Canyon Dr. Parking is very limited but they are next to downtown Cathedral City where a parking structure and street parking are available. Once you park, it's just a brief walk to this diner from the parking structure.
Sunshine Cafe makes everything homemade and you can definitely taste it. I had the Chicken Fried Steak with hashbrowns, 2 sunny-side up eggs and the homemade country sausage gravy. This was a great flavorful dish. I was really surprised with the creamy gravy that complimented the chicken fried steak. So Good!!! The hashbrowns were fresh and the eggs were served beautifully. Also, this order comes with a side toast of your choosing. The best part is that they took it upon themselves to butter my toast before it came to the table. I was able to enjoy this meal with their fresh squeezed orange juice.
My partner had the Belgian Waffle Combo. This dish comes with 1 large waffle topped with whipped cream, 2 sunny-side up eggs, and 2 large sausages, but bacon is also an option upon request. She was able to have this delicious dish with all you can drink hot coffee. They are very attentive with filling up your mug everytime you reach the bottom of the mug.
Overall this is a great location to enjoy a homemade meal when you want to indulge your appetite with lots of love and sunshine. They offer a multitude of other food options, other than breakfast items. As we walked up to the diner, we were hit a with a delicious aroma of charbroiled burgers. I will definitely be back to treat myself to what I assume is a mouth watering burger and my partner, well she...
Read moreIt had been a long time since we had been to the Sunshine Cafe. I had a bit of a hard time deciding whether I wanted breakfast or lunch. I narrowed it down to three things and then to two. One was breakfast and one was lunch. There was a couple things about the menu that seemed odd to me. One was the fact that they had Pancake combo's without eggs. So it was pancakes with bacon for like $15.99. If you wanted the banana Pancake with it they charge additional $2.75. Then if you wanted eggs with it it would be $17.95 plus the $2.75 more to get it with the banana Pancake I wanted to try. Nope, $21.00 for Pancake and eggs. So my second opinion was the French dip. Under sandwiches it said you could pick a side like French fries. Under the description of the French dip it said it came with fruit. The wouldn't honor that. They said I wasn't suppose to get fries and fruit. I didn't want to argue what was clearly written (I should of taken a picture) so I ordered the French dip. My husband ordered the Cajun Chicken Sandwich. As for my five year old I ran into the same issue with the combos. Micky Pancake with bacon $9.50. When I asked about eggs she suggested I could spend the $17.95 and order a regular combo. That is too expensive for a kid that is going to eat a couple bites of an egg, one Pancake at best and no bacon. She did compromise and give us the one Pancake and eggs on the the side, no bacon for the $9.50 price. So the breakdown. My husband that his sandwich was good. My daughter's Pancake was ok. It a a bit dry, especially at the Mickey ears. Eggs were meh. My sandwich was not great. One whole half was damp because it was sitting on a bed of lettuce so I didn't even eat that half. The other half was fair, but I would not get it again. My husband and I both agree that the fries were the star of the meal. My husband said if he could rate the fries he would give them a 5 out of 5 lol I really have no need to go back unless my husband wants those...
Read moreI just payed a visit to this heavenly establishment for the first time and boy was I shocked. Their food...it’s unbelievable! They were pretty busy/full when we came in and when we left. My boyfriend and I had to settle for a seat at their bar which was perfectly fine. The server was amazing and super nice to us. I ordered the eggs and bacon which came with toast and your choice of potato. I chose the home fries which were AMAZING!! The eggs and bacon were top notch as well. Their bacon is thick sliced so all you bacon lovers out their should go in and pig out ;). I also ordered one single pancake (I saw the option on the menu and I instantly fell in love—I mean I can barely eat one let alone a short stack). So the pancake was one of the most delicious things I have ever put in my mouth. The edges were crispy, the cake was fluffy, it wasn’t too sweet but it was packed with so much flavor...it was the size of the plate so needless to say I wish they would’ve brought it out first before I downed 2 cups of amazing coffee and my eggs and bacon and home fries and a slice of toast haha. My boyfriend ordered a bacon and egg burrito that was massive and it looked pretty delicious as well. If I would’ve had any kind of space in my tummy I would have tried it as well. I was just impressed that it came with a side of guacamole, sour cream, and salsa. This is one establishment I will definitely be returning to unless the line is out of the door, as...
