I'm not one to write reviews, but I feel compelled to write one for Z's since it was such a wonderful experience! My partner & I were in town visiting from LA & decided to check out Z's. A must-visit in carefree/cave creek. The ambiance is perfect - intimate, quiet, & cozy. & the food was DELICIOUS -- authentic, flavorful, & a ton of variety! Not to mention very hearty portions. We are vegetarian and Z, the owner, was extremely accommodating, ensuring everything would be made vegetarian & at my partner's request, without cilantro as he is one of those cilantro haters (sad). On top of that, Z herself is so lovely. We chatted with her for a while & this was the icing on the cake. The other patrons were also extremely kind & we started chatting with some of them, too! It felt like a really welcoming space.
We were the last customers there and the restaurant had technically closed an hour prior. My partner was very excited about the Dairy Queen next door as it reminded him of his childhood. It was closing in 5 minutes so Z offered him ice cream at the restaurant instead, which was so kind as she was trying to close things up. We said no problem and ran next door right before it closed to grab an ice cream cone. It was around 40 degrees out & upon getting the ice cream he realized this was a very cold choice & our uber was 20 minutes away without even an outside table to sit at. We ran back to Z's & asked if we could hang in front of the restaurant &instead, she insisted that we come inside so he could eat his ice cream in the warmth of the restaurant & wait for our uber, there.
An all-around fantastic experience. We highly recommend & would give more stars,...
Read moreI cannot count the number of times I've driven by Z's or stopped in Janie's for a cup of coffee or a drink and never ate here. I'm not sure where to start other than to say every aspect of this dining experience was phenomenal.
After living in the New Jersey New York City area for decades I feel like I've been spoiled with many ethnic foods especially Thai. Well I'm going to tell you this is one of the best I've been to, hands down.
We are cordially greeted by Pete who is both charming and eloquent his effusive description of the Thai food made my mouth water and feel like I was at a traditional home-cooked Thai restaurant.
In fact, we were. Although z has a PhD she has chosen her passion for traditional family Thai recipes and is brought them to Cave Creek. N.B. Grandma's secret sauce is off the charts. As a lover of very spicy food this was extraordinary but be warned it's spicy.
The Tom Yum soup with chicken and shrimp was savory, the right amount of spice and vegetables. Pad Thai off the charts flavorful and I really liked that they had the crushed peanuts on the side rather than on top. Yellow Curry was thick and creamy and really felt like a hearty Curry.
We were fortunate enough to go late and z came out to check on how we enjoyed our dinner. To be Frank the dinner was phenomenal chatting with her was equally as enjoyable.
Personally I'll be shocked if I don't go back within the next day or two. There's so many things I'd like to try not to mention the fried bananas and...

I've seen Z's House of Thai mentioned online for a long time now, so when a friend wanted Thai food for lunch, I said, "I know just the place!"
It's a small shack-like building tucked away in downtown Cave Creek, right next to Janey's. Choose to sit at the bar, a table in the dark interior or out on the patio. We choose the nice cool weather outside with views of mountains and saguaros, because when I'm in the Creek, I want to sit outside in it.
We shared a few items: Green curry with chicken, cucumber salad, and the server suggestion of the BBQ pork. We had intended on trying more, but honestly, this was the perfect filling lunch for two. I don't believe that you can ever go wrong with a cucumber salad as it's so light and refreshing. Not only did I love the flavor of the pork appetizer, but the unexpected slight crunch was so nice as well. The green curry was fresh and tasty with a hint of spice. A small tin of extra spice sauce was brought out if we wanted to add extra heat.
I love hanging in the Creek and Z's is another quaint location to enjoy good food and feel the...
