Famous Dave's Bar-B-Que — Restaurant in Cedar Falls

The food itself for the most part was fine. I really enjoyed the ribs and I know my son liked his milkshake but the staff and service were extremely lacking.

When we first came in and I had a question about the food since this was my first time I had been here in 10 years the girl just pointed above at the monitor and told me to look there. I asked politely and it would have been decent of her to give me a 10 second answer instead of giving a slight eye roll and pointing above at the monitor.

-Our food didn't arrive at the same time even though my husband and I order the same rib platter. I know the place was starting to get busy after we sat down but there shouldn't have been a long gap before receiving all of our meals together.

When we placed our son's order for the milkshake the woman at the counter asked if we wanted it with the food or at the end. We said at the end. After we finished our food I tried to flag down a staff member to ask for the milkshake since it seemed like we were forgotten about. Understandable that it was busier now so my son went up to the main counter asking for it. It took a while to get to us and when she dropped it off her face gave the impression that it was an inconvenience for her to bring it to us.

I'm not a regular here so I don't know what the staff are like on a day-to-day basis but this day certainly wasn't a good example of what good customer service...

I've had BBQ all over the world with all different styles and I have never understood some people's claims of Famous Dave's. They are mediocre at best. While the service was decent (but not extraordinary) the food is a far cry from being famous. The ribs are not even in the top 50 that I've had. Their brisket is the best tasting thing in the menu but the 3 thin slices (of the flat - not the point) I was given was pathetic. Apparently the staff wasn't trained to portion by weight instead of count or their weights are just that bad. The chopped pork actually had a much better flavor that many places do but that was immediately ruined by the gobs of sauce that was streamed over it (without my requesting it.) Save yourself some money and just buy a can of Bush's beans rather than trying Dave's. You'll get a ton more flavor and a lot less water. The real disappointment was their mac and cheese. I'm struggling to come up with the words to describe it without being ordinary. That was exactly it. Ordinary. Bland. Tasteless. A waste of a bowl.

Did the meal fill me up? Yes. Was it bad. No. Would I go again? To be honest, probably. But don't mistake this for a great place to go. Don't be drawn in by the "famous" in the name. Think of Famous Dave's like Burger King. A place to go when you just need to...

A little disappointed with my dining experience tonight. But I think with a little more coaching and attention to detail, it would have been great. I sat myself in the bar area and waited for my waitress. She came over and I ordered a scotch and soda with lime. It came back a scotch and 7 :( I didn’t complain because who wants to waste good booze. I just let it slide. I ordered the feast for 1. After about 10 minutes the bartender came to ask if I’d like another drink, which I appreciated. About 15 minutes later my food came. The pulled pork was moist, tender and delicious, the beans were warm and flavorful, the cole slaw was cool and crisp, the chicken was great as well..... the ribs..... although they had good flavor they were tough, chewy, rubbery, and I literally had to cut them away from the bone with a knife. Not a good thing when it comes to BBQ. I had finished my meal and the bartender finished her conversation with her friend and brought me my check. I let her know I wasn’t completely satisfied with my food and she offered to discount it. I just said, it’s alright. I’ll give this place another chance in the future, but I hope things will be better upon my return visit. Keep trying...
