I've been coming here for over 6 years and come at least once a week. It's been great for years and a real shame that I haven't left a positive review in all that time. It's unfortunate that the time I come to leave a review, it's a bad one.. typical right?.. Well, none the less here we are. The last three times I've been here this month have been extremely bad. During the same three incidents, the issue has stemmed from the kitchen and the way the food was being incorrectly made. (Overcooked, excluded ingredients thrown on the plate etc.) The same manager, Callie, has been on duty each time and responsibile for checking on guests' experiences. The first time she didn't speak to us at all. We only dealt with the waiter. The food item took so long to receive that the rest of the food was cold and my wife was no longer hungry. The 2nd time, she did approach us and apologized for the poor experience and poor previous experience. She remembered my party and the situation from the previous week. She said she would correct the issue but never came back to follow up. After 15 mins went by, I went to where she was standing to ask her for an update. This seemed to annoy her since I interrupted her unprofessional conversation with a bartender. She told me she would check with the kitchen and see what was taking so long. She eventually delivered the food item herself but did not appear happy to do it. She didn't respond to me saying thank you and just dropped the food off and left. The third time we went to the restaurant it got off to a bad start. They never sent a text or it wasn't received due to extremely poor cell reception. (Although I did send a test text message and it was received without issue) I confirmed with the male host that they had the right number and had checked in the correct person. He said it would only be a 10-15 minute wait. No problem, we got some drinks from the bar and patiently waited. Callie, the manager would come to the host stand at times and shout out names to help the host. After 20 mins the host and manager were away but I looked on the list on the tablet and saw our name was 2 away... Must be taking longer than expected... AFTER another 20 mins I checked with Callie. She told me she had sent a text twice to the number we had on file. We never received a text message. I told Callie we have been standing with in 5-10 feet of the host stand the entire time and never heard our name called as she had called others. Callie stated she is the only one who can scream loud enough so other people don't do it. She was able to seat us immediately upon me notifying her of our situation but seemed annoyed by having to speak or explain the situation to me. Not a smile. Barely an apology for the inconvenience. My intention of writing this review is to bring the poor quality of management to light. If you have an issue you should know that it most likely won't be corrected and you can expect to experience it over and over. If you're unfortunate enough to have to deal with Callie, then you will not only be disappointed by your original issue but also by the way and demeanor she has while trying to half heartedly address your concern. Since she became manager I have had 3 poor experiences that I had never encountered over the last 5 or six years. I think this speaks to her inability to properly manage a restaurant. I hope her supervisor sees this review and works with her to make her a better manager worthy of this establishment. Since her arrival, the restaurant is always out of ingredients. No orange juice, no barbacoa, no beans, no rice... Different issues on different days....
Read moreWhile I generally like Lupe Tortilla for a quick Tex-Mex fix, today was the exception at the location in Cedar Park. It was quite a few minutes before I was greeted by anyone, even though there were servers standing near the bar having their own conversation. After finally making my order, the bartender informed me she had to ring in my order differently as I ordered the Pedro "Patron" combo but wanted an extra taco instead of a tamale. It was unclear that there was an upcharge for guacamole even though it was included on the dish I ordered. I just didn't want the tamale, and would have ordered something different had I known I was being uncharged. I also ordered an egg on top of my enchilada. That said, when my food came out, it was missing the egg. I let the bartender know and she went to the kitchen to let them know. Not long after, a manager came up to ask how my food came out, and I told him I didn't get the egg I ordered. The bartender came out quickly to interrupt him and tell him she took care of it, and without saying anything else, he just walked away. I then noticed I didn't get my guacamole which I wanted for my tacos. I let the bartender know again, and she rushed to the kitchen. Tired of waiting, I started eating my tacos waiting for the egg for my enchiladas. After finishing both tacos (half my lunch) I finally got my egg and guac. When I was finished and got my bill, I saw I was charged for my guac. When ai asked the bartender, she said she had to ring it in as a combo but never said she would have to charge me extra for the guac. I was still charged for the egg as well and the mousy manager, who only came by once more to see how everything tasted with no apology for the error, didn't offer any compensation for not including 2 extra elements of my dish that I was charged for. Super unprofessional, and not at all hospitable given the circumstance. I will not be back to the Cedar Park location, and suggest you invest in new management to ensure a better guest experience if you want to stay in business, because according to other reviews I'm not the only one who has experienced a total disregard in...
Read moreOur visit to Lupe Tortilla Mexican Restaurant Cedar Park location in Austin was spoiled by a distressing and discriminatory experience that left a lasting negative impression. As three young Black women who recently moved to Austin for professional careers at major tech companies, we were excited to try a new restaurant. When we attempted to order drinks, we presented our government-issued state IDs—one from Illinois, one from North Carolina, and one from Tennessee (as we are all new to the state). Despite being well over the legal drinking age and providing legitimate identification, our server scrutinized our IDs, using a phone flashlight and inspecting them for an unusually long time.
Shortly afterward, the manager approached us, stating that our IDs were deemed "unacceptable" and accusing us of presenting fake IDs. Even after my friend provided a second government-issued military ID to confirm her identity, and despite our own assurances, the manager continued to dismiss our IDs as "flimsy" and “fake.” This exchange, in which our legitimate documents were dismissed without reasonable cause, felt deeply humiliating and, frankly, discriminatory.
This situation was particularly disheartening because we were among the very few Black customers in the restaurant that evening. We ultimately decided to cancel our orders and leave, feeling unwelcome and singled out based on assumptions rather than any genuine cause for concern.
As newcomers to Austin, this experience has left us questioning the inclusivity of certain establishments. We hope that Lupe Tortilla Mexican Restaurant Cedar Park location will take immediate steps to ensure all patrons are treated fairly, respectfully, and without prejudice, regardless of appearance or state of origin. No one should experience this kind of treatment, especially when simply seeking a welcoming dining experience...
