In beautiful Cedar Rapids for a hockey tournament! I worked up a huuuge appetite after an unbelievably successful day at the rink!
I decided to dine at the CityWalk Eatery continently located in downtown Cedar Rapids!
I walked in an was immediately greeted by the wonderful hostess Lindsey! The place was packed like a UPS truck during Christmas season! I explained to Lindsey that I am super starving and am in need of a great meal! Lindsey immediately found a table for me and got me seated! Lindsey went ABOVE & BEYOND and advised Caleb of my hunger situation!
Once seated, Caleb rushed to my table and kindly explained the food and drink menu. I must say, there were several tempting food options to choose from. Caleb convinced me that the Traditional Garlic Alfredo. It was amazing!!! I actually asked Caleb if the pasta was imported from Italy! Because the meal was wicked awesome, I had to order dessert! Caleb once again nailed it on the recommendation, which was the brownie ice cream. If I could swear in this I would describe it as F*in AWESOME!!! Ohhhh don’t let me forget the Raspberry Moscow Mule that Caleb whipped up…next level amazing!
I have been to hundreds of establishments and the Chef, Marcus is legit…this dude needs to be featured on one of the cooking shows!
Upon exiting, the manager, Trinity asked me how my experience was. Trinity quickly discovered that I was from out of town and offered a variety of post restaurant options for me to choose from. Trinity provided me with a history of the place and went into great detail on the award winning team and cocktail options she created! Trinity deserves a manager of the year award!
Don’t let me forget, Bryn who kept the place vibrant and live! He checked on me a few times and was full of energy! You can tell he truly enjoys his job!
I gotta tell you, if you are in Cedar Rapids and you want an all-star meal in a welcoming and authentic environment, there is no place better to go then the CityWalk Eatery! If you want a drink-also GET HERE!
I give this place two thumbs up and if my toes count for thumbs, I’ll put those up as well! So far this is my 2025 restaurant of the year!!! Thank you from the bottom of my heart,...
Read moreLet me start by saying that I was so excited to try this new place out. My husband and I love going out to eat for date nights and when we find a place we love, we are the type to go there all the time.
I tried to book a reservation here, and online it wouldn’t allow me to. The website says they accept reservations for 4 to 10 people. As most of the restaurants in CR don't accept reservations for less than groups of 8, we assumed that meant we just had to walk in. Boy, were we wrong. We got to the restaurant a little before 4:30 pm, we were told the whole restaurant was full, but there wasn’t a single table with people at it. The reservations would be coming in around 5, the hostess said. I told her that I tried to book a reservation online and it said you only accept reservations for groups of 4-10. She said “you could’ve called” yeah..I could have.. but because your reservation policy says 4-10, I assumed that if I called I would have gotten the same response. Anyway, they offered us a seat at the bar, but because it was going to be our first time at the restaurant we wanted to sit at a table, so we opted out and went to Kingston’s Steakhouse instead (shoutout to Kingstons because their steak is soooo good, and I love their bread and homemade butters!). On the way to Kingston’s, I decided to call a manager from Citywalk to let them know that their website says they accept reservations for 4-10 people. The manager was mildly apologetic, and then attempted to make me feel dumb by telling me that also on the website it says to call for groups of less than 4 to make reservations. I wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt and was willing to admit that I must have somehow missed that in the reservation policies, but upon re-reading them multiple times, it doesn’t say that anywhere, actually.
I’m INCREDIBLY frustrated by the lack of customer service, the lack of humility, and the lack of effort on their part. Black Sheep would never. Kingston’s would never. You’re far better off going to one of those places instead, if you want to actually be...
Read moreFive stars for a great server who really cared about providing a great experience. Drinks were great. Food was mostly disappointing (two of the four meals were actually pretty terrible, and our server did take one of those off our bill, so thank you for that). The restaurant looks great. I'm still giving five stars because the server really seemed to care and I certainly want to see a place like this survive. It is surprising that no one from management came over to apologize for the some of our meals being bad. Please work on that. You have an opportunity to increase the likelihood of success by communicating with your customers when something doesn't go well and you could probably get them to give you another try. Those in our party felt no such "love" from management, so at this point, we're unlikely to be back. If we hear great word of mouth, we’ll probably stop back in for another try. Sorry, just being honest about our experience. BTW, the website is funny; guessing the owner didn’t write it or proof it. CITYWALK EATERY's claims of superiority (stated without support/references) are uncool; you're part of a community, be respectful. Again, our server was great (5 stars for her!) and we suspect she could help the restaurant improve if the owner/manager asks her about her observations of the...
