I would have given Doubleday's 5 stars except for a bad experience tonight 12/30/2021. I will explain that at the end of my comments. Favorite local restaurant for a quick bite after a busy day. Great traditional food, well prepared with generous portions. Friendly atmosphere. My husband and I missed it so much during the pandemic restrictions. It was the first place we felt safe going out to eat after the restrictions lifted. Then we discovered how great their pizza is and that their curbside carryout is the most efficient in town. Because they are a local restaurant we always tip generously.
Husband and I and adult son in from CA for the holidays ordered a curbside meal tonight. I am 7 weeks out from knee replacement and had already been on my feet too much today. Large pepperoni for the guys. I decided to try a Greek chicken quesadilla. Pleasant Order-taker over the phone explained it came with sour cream and tsaziki sauce; I asked for the tsaziki sauce plus additional small container of Greek vinaigrette dressing; she repeated the order correctly and said it would be ready in 15-20 minutes. After a 25 minute round trip my husband arrived home with our dinner and we settled into the family room for a movie. My chicken quesadilla was Greek with feta cheese and spinach, but there was no container of tsaziki sauce, no Greek vinaigrette dressing and only sour cream and mexican salsa. I called the curbside order line with to report the error. They told me to come back for corrected sauces. I said that my husband and son's pizza would be cold by then. Curbside turned me over to supervisor who asked me what I expected other than replaced sauces. I said that I mostly wanted the error reported to the kitchen so they would avoid the mistake in the future but perhaos he could refund the cost of my incorrect quesadilla. He told me that the sauces were only worth 50 cents and he wouldn't refund for a meal I could eat anyway with the sauces they sent. I checked the receipt and it listed QUESA-CHX, GREEK EX DRESS $.50, SALSA SOUR CREAM. So somehow the curbside order as correctly repeated to me was submitted incorrectly to kitchen. The manager treated me as though I was just looking for a discounted meal. This was not about the money, sir! It was about Doubleday's falling short of it's extremely high standards both in the order accuracy and courtesy to patrons. We will be back again for dine-in but will carefully check curbside orders before...
Read moreFood is always delicious. I have to say, the Centerville location has gone downhill on service since they have opened a second location. The new location located in Springboro has very friendly staff while Centerville is left with a few originals trying to keep it running. Tonight our waitress was Rebecca, who clearly did not want to wait on our party of 5 adults and one baby. We started with being sat at a table ment for 4. We asked about the issue with the table size and was told that is how they seat large parties and they do it all the time. This was on a Tuesday at about 530pm. They were visibly not busy at this hour. We decided to work with the seating and table size. Rebecca continued to seem like she didn't have patience with us and we felt we were being hurried to order drinks and food. We received our orders which were perfect and delicious as usual due to the great cooking staff. Due to the small table size ment for 4, when receiving our food, we were forced to pill on food to other plates and remove the empty glasses from the table so we would not be knocking elbows and spilling drinks. The waitress did not seem to care to remove the extra plates and glasses which we then had to place on an empty table next to us that we were told was not going to be used. The waitress, after removing the empty cups, then plates decided to tell us not to place the items on the other table and that she would gladly remove all items from our table. She realized what she had said and in turn said she would gladly remove any items we wanted taken off of the table per our request. From this point on it turned even further down hill. No refills were given without us having to call for Rebecca to refill them. We requested a small bowl for left over food which never arrived and had to be given to us by one of the original waitresses who was friendly as always. Rebecca was given the bill paid in cash and was told to keep the more than par tip. Rebecca thanked us but returned by dropping the receipt like a mic drop with the tip money. We took Rebecca's behavior as she hates where she works but also what she does for a living. If you go to this location please request to not be sat in her spot. She is not worth the experience and will ruin your evening.. We will no longer be returning to the...
Read moreDecided to splurge for dinner tonight and what better way than MONSTER PIZZA? Or so I thought. I called and gave my info, explained I looked at the menu and didn't see the pizza I had ordered in the past. The menu used to be HUGE and it has been scaled down, but this was a popular pizza choice (I think it was the White Pizza... I can't remember but I always called and asked for the White Pizza and they knew what I was asking for) I heard about it the 1st time on a Friday Night Carryout special when I called in. I tried to describe it and the young girl on the phone didn't seem to know what I was asking about and said she would ask... then proceeded to ask ME if it was this... or that... I said I thought you were asking someone else? I don't think she really cared, and I understand, but this is your job and you need to put forth a little effort since it is a CUSTOMER you are speaking with. I gave in and ordered what I THOUGHT was close to what I had received in the past. Now we all know that Monster Pizza isn't cheap, BUT, it is usually worth it, a great "splurge". Loaded with cheese and toppings that are falling off the piece as you pick it up... Cooked wonderfully and SO DELICIOUS. Well, you got me this time. I could have received this exact pizza at domino's for ALOT less than $25 for a large thin crust pizza.
It was over cooked, burned/charred meat and dough and the THINNEST pizza I have ever received from Doubledays. This was the thinnest layer of toppings and what I thought was going to be a nice treat, with plenty of left overs will be the last pizza I order from them.
They don't have an email address on the website that I could see so the only way I knew to let them know was to post a review.
Beware especially if you are ordering takeout... check the box before you drive off. I would have handed it back and asked for my $$ back.
You need someone on the phone that LIKES their job or at least knows how to fake it. Such a...
