Northern Cuisine — Restaurant in Champaign

Great spot for authentic northern Chinese cuisine. I went for lunch and ordered the cucumber and bean curd salad and the short rib and fried eggplant entree. Food was amazing. Atmosphere was clean, modern and comfy. Service was a bit odd though. The appetizer was served with the entree but the entree wasn’t what I ordered. I immediately let the server know that it was the wrong dish. The server left the dish in front of me and walked away. A minute or so later, they returned with a menu and asked me what I ordered. I told them and they walked away with the wrong entree. Not a minute later, I noticed the server give that dish that was in front of me to the next table. And there was a bit of confusion upon paying where the server asked if I wanted a receipt and as I was asking to have an email receipt sent, they touched the print button. Then spent a couple awkward minutes trying to figure out how to go back on the screen to send an email receipt. I just ended up taking the paper copy and left. Update: the owners changed to reusable plates and cups so we came back and man am I happy! This food is so amazing! Glad I can dine without a guilty conscience. So many tasty veggie options too!

We thought the food was pretty delicious! We had the cucumber and bean curd salad, the fried eggplant and the pork and veggie dumplings. The fried eggplant was good but needed a bit of acid balance. But it was flavorful. The biggest complaint and what will prevent me from returning the the wasteful plastic cups, sauce containers and packaging on the chop sticks. For a restaurant that has a nice ambiance this plastic throwaway stuff killed it for me. It is wasteful and lazy when clearly so much effort is being put into the menu design and...

I used to like this place however recently their portions are secretly getting much smaller. See the picture attached from our recent takeout. It is only HALF full. Their squid is also getting much smaller than before and we ordered that dish many times. We have confronted this issue with the waitress, who told us that "it is totally normal"... If you really need higher profit, please raise the price so that at least everything is transparent. Charging the same price while secretly reducing the portion is just pathetic and wasting people's time.

Response to owner: my last order for the squid was about a month ago. I did not suggest these are from the same order last week. You try hard to direct the conversation to an irrelevant direction, and...
