Sugar Berries Cafe — Restaurant in Champaign

They deleted my other review because I exposed them not paying employees. Do NOT eat or work here. I normally don't post reviews, but this is unacceptable. I worked here starting April 19th, 2025, and they refuse to pay me. They keep dodging my calls and told me 3 different people would Zelle me my payment and I still haven't gotten paid. They are very dishonest and disorganized. I tried being patient and reasonable, giving them 3 weeks for my payment and respectfully asked for my paycheck, even drove to ask in-person, and still nothing. After doing more research about this business, I came to learn they had numerous health code violations, that is why it's so empty everyday, even on weekends. Went a couple of times under the old name and wasn't impressed. Hoped the new name came with a new experience, sadly it's the same old same old. The menu is overpriced for mediocre food and slow service. It's a shame, this place seems like if they could just get the quality up it would be perfect for a high end breakfast and brunch restaurant. The real fallen star of the place was the coffee bar. 1 person running it on a Saturday, and she didn't seem to know how to make anything, there was no urgency whatsoever, my latte took 15minutes and came out room temp. Came around 1pm on a Saturday and the place was dead. Maybe 3 tables filled with pairs of people.

Our service was great. The ladies taking care of us were very attentive and sweet. They didn’t have a menu item I asked for, so I opted to just snack off others plates (picky eater problems). Well, a few minutes later they had a delivery? They were very happy to tell me they could make it. I appreciated that as the waitress was straight up jazzed to tell me they could make me French toast.

Anyway that’s all the good.
