Vinny's by the slice and More — Restaurant in Champaign

We drove here from nearly an hour away in a desperate attempt to find some decent NYC style pizza, and thankfully the effort (and fuel) weren't wasted. Hands down the best pizza we've had since moving to Illinois. The sauce tastes amazing (no added sugar or other weirdness) and the crust was perfectly cooked; firm and crisp on the bottom, but still soft enough to fold without breaking it, unlike the cracker-style crusts that seem popular in this region and not heavy and doughy like the super thick bread-like crusts. The edges of the crust were pleasantly crunchy without being burnt. It had the perfect ratio of sauce to cheese, so we were able to appreciate the flavor of the seasonings in the sauce. It's a bit of a drive from where we live, but well worth it. We spent a good portion of our return trip home talking about how much we enjoyed our meal here. I never imagined something as simple as a decent slice of pizza would be a thing I'd feel so strongly about until moving here and discovering how much regional preferences can influence the foods prepared by local restaurants. Thin and crisp pizza comparable to Luca’s Pizza. I don’t recommend the Mac and Cheese Pizza. It lacks substantial flavor. I couldn’t tell if they even use a sauce on it. I thought the plain cheese slice was better. Also the ranch tastes like hidden valley and not the good, very-runny kind some pizza places have. Only mentioning since it’s extra and I wouldn’t have got it had I known that. Two workers in there and one was on his phone even though tables were dirty and no one was in there. Something slightly off-putting about it being completely empty and all the cold slices sitting out. Makes you wonder how long they’ve been sitting there. I like the pizza, it’s a good spot for a quick lunch that’s not too costly or filling, but every time I order online they mess it up and have to remake it. I don’t seem to ever have this problem at the other location, so I’m guessing they’re just not reading the ticket slip well enough here. It’s disappointing because I order during my lunch break and end up coming back late waiting for my order to be remade. Then I feel bad for asking it to be remade.
