We came here because the reviews were excellent, and one even stated it was the best breakfast in Maricopa County! We were really looking forward to some high quality food.
We were greeted immediately at the door, and our server was very friendly. The atmosphere was nothing fancy but the menus were paper (which means they cannot properly sanitize them).
We sat and ordered coffee. It was pretty good, and went down easy. Not too light, not too strong.. a good, balanced coffee. We chose to order the Carne Asada breakfast skillet with eggs over easy on top. Our side was sourdough toast with an additional side of sausage gravy.
We were caught off guard by how quickly the food was served. The carne asada skillet: I was expecting sliced and seasoned steak, as that is all I have ever been served when ordering this style meat. What we received resembled large pounded chunks of ground beef, and we thought we were given chorizo by mistake. When our server returned, we asked, and she said she had ordered Carne Asada for us. We asked a second time when she returned again, and she asked the kitchen to be sure they made carne asada as well. She came back stating that is the carne asada for this establishment. We did not like the meal, as it tasted very low quality and overly salted. The cheesey vegetables and eggs were very tasty, but the saltiness of the meat overpowered the dish.
The gravy was underwhelming and tasted suspiciously similar to the canned gravy Best Western serves in their breakfast buffet. It didn't necessary taste bad, just poor quality, and heavily preserved.
The sourdough toast was really thick and of perfect consistency 🤤
The server was very kind and understanding, and she removed the dish from our bill without hesitation.
It is a toss up if I would return. The rest of the reviews were all positive but I also feel most people will eat anything. I chose this establishment because it was the highest rated breakfast in the area, but in the end I expected better quality and was let down.
I hope this review helps both ownership...
Read moreWe went to the BlackBerry Cafe this morning for Sunday family breakfast because it is in the same place where Biscuits used to be, and I was hoping it was just a rebranding or new management or something along those lines... it is an altogether new establishment that unfortunately falls short of its predecessor. I was impressed they offered a gluten-free pancake option, but that was about all that impressed. We were told multiple times that the food was "almost ready," but it took nearly 30 mins to actually get our order out. We were there before the Sunday morning rush by design, but it didn't matter. Normally we get our daughter's meal put in first but the server did not take any orders when she gave us coffee even though we were ready. She had to go pour more cups of coffee and wait other tables even though she was literally standing at our table.
Because we waited so long, the server gave our kiddo a free apple juice (thoughtful but trivial) in the grand scheme of things. When the food came it was already cooked off enough that our 2-yr old could eat it without blowing on it. My wife's and my food was somehow watery? I got the corned beef hash omelette which was a favorite from Biscuits, who used delicious hand shredded CBH but this place uses canned "dog food" style CBH. It made my omelette soggy and I couldn't get past the first couple bites. The gluten-free pancake was okay, but nothing to write home over. My daughter's ham and cheese omelette looked the best but I didn't dare eat her food. My wife had the garden skillet. It upset her stomach and it was a race to get home...
On top of it all, the coffee tasted like it was half water. They gave us a "loyalty card" but we will...
Read moreSo thankful BlackBerry Cafe has come to this neighborhood. Really really great food, perfect menu selection, pricing is just right.. maybe even a little on the low end especially considering the food portions and the superb food quality! Incredible service, staff all are very well put together, very fast service, very comfortable super cute classy warm atmosphere. Friendliest staff all the way around. My server was Jessica P. or Jennifer P. I kept accidentally calling her by her wrong name but it's one or the either and she was spot on. I met the owner of BlackBerry Cafe and she is the most pleasant person to talk with. She's so sweet, humble, caring, so down to earth and a gentle beauty I wouldn't have guessed she's the owner. She's a really great person. Quite refreshing to say the least. They have other BlackBerry Cafe locations in other states but I believe this location is the only one here in Az. Don't quote me on that but I think it is. The place does not at all have that chain restaurant feel to it. It has that wonderful good ole ma & pa very pleasant feel to it. You know.. the kind that has real sausage country gravy, not skimpy on servings and such welcoming service that you feel as if you're part of the family. This place is a must go to. Easy in and out of the parking lot with plenty of parking and easy to see from the street. I love the outdoor covered patio. It's where I prefer to sit when I go. You're not forgotten when you're on the patio either. That often happens at many establishments. I cannot say enough great things about BlackBerry Cafe. It's hands down my new go to for...
