This fifty plus year old Canadian restaurant icon is one of the few chains, big box eateries in the country who know how to both be consistent and tasty simultaneously. Having patronized quite a few Keg Steakhouse & Bars in our day, and over the last few years, this one in particular in Chandler – I must say they are always well worth the trip and always rank high in my appreciation for them. Whether you start with their Gruyère mushroom DIP of poblanos and mushrooms, Gruyère cheese and cream cheese or the Calamari slightly crispy 0fried, Greek feta sauce with ginger garlic sauce, to their meals of Prime Rib, Filet Mignon or Sirloin Oscar, to their add on sides like Garlic Mashed Potatoes, the Twice Baked Potato and even their Keg Fries – all are consistently very good. I have some faves though: Prime Rib Sliders (always tender and juicy), an incredible rendition of Lobster Bisque, almost perfectly done Scallops and Bacon, and I have to say their bartenders have not failed us yet. Here’s my overall score for The Keg. As it is virtually impossible nowadays to not find conglomerates operating restaurants that can actually provide 1) amazing service: 4 , 2) excellent attention to detail especially in hospitality: 4.5 , 3) cleanliness, hygiene and comfort in their décor, amenities and lavatories: 4 , 4) an abundant and/or varied food and/or product menu: 4.5 , 5) consistently appetizing offerings: 5 , 6) a sincere customer service: 4.5 , 7) unique, innovative or specialized menus: 4 , 8) value and price of meals: 3.5 , and most of all, 9) the inert desire of one wanting to return, again and again for the experience gained: 4.0 . These are some if not most of what my basic requirements are when visiting one of these establishments each time. My wife and I, although not professional reviewers, are connoisseurs of excellent foods whether a fine upscale cuisine, middle of the road common eats, or a low-end fast-food joint. In this way, I have developed a to-the-point method for determining the personal worthiness of each establishment visited as noted in my opening. Simplified, each requisite noted for the establishment visited best scored by my highest score offered. The Keg Steakhouse & Bar - Chandler scores a 4.3 of a potential 5.0. Most big box, national chains we visit will rarely acquire more than 3.5 on my scale… that make The Keg a unique and extraordinary find in my book. Keep it up Keg – we’ll be...
Read moreHad a mid-afternoon reservation for Valentine's Day. Got there and had about a 3 minute wait. Place was very lightly populated, though quite a few people came in after we were seated. We were seated in the bar area at a 6 seat high top even though there were several 2-tops available, as well as in the "dining room". This table was right in front of the main entrance from the lobby area into the bar. The day was breezy and cool and the front and other doors were open, allowing the breeze to blow through. It was getting cool, so I asked on of the managers to close the front door. It took them about 5 minutes before they did close the door, which we appreciated. We were offered drinks and menus fairly quickly. Both of us just had water. When we ordered, we both ordered the "Top Sirloin Classic", which came with a salad and side; wife had the 6 oz and I had the 8 oz, and both were ordered cooked medium. A decent sized mixed green salad was served promptly as was =very= good sourdough bread. After we'd finished our salads, we waited about 10 more minutes for our food, which surprised me given the relative lack of other diners. Steaks come and are nicely seared; baked potatoes are very hot. As soon as I started to cut my steak, I knew it wasn't cooked properly, and I was right. My steak was very rare, with zero grey showing and was cool. Wife's steak was also rare, though did show some grey on one side, but not the other. I'd still call it rare to medium-rare. We were both very hungry as we skipped lunch due to the early dinner time, so chose to not send our food back. While the cuts of meat were good, being so undercooked made mine tough to cut and chew. In addition, while wife thought her steak was flavored well, mine was not. I added both a fair amount of pepper and some salt; before that, my steak was very...meh. Going to a "steak place" you =expect= the chefs to know how to cook a steak to the proper temperature. The Keg is =far= from alone in this and even a lot of the "premium" steak places are guilty of this, as well. There are other steak places in Chandler that will serve you a =larger= top sirloin, with sides, salad and bread, and for considerably less money. This was our first trip to The Keg in several years and I'm not sure if we'll go back there...
Read moreI have eaten here multiple times but tonight was a disappointment. I am blown away with what happened. My parents decided to treat us to dinner. First thing I noticed was our waiter walked passed us multiple times ( the attitude of I could care less) 15 minutes later he comes and takes our order. My father asked about the specials. There was particular cut my father asked about and waiter went on like he knew what he was talking about But not really. We order food. They bring out salads. My father decides to look further into more information on the special. Waiter comes to table to pick up salad plates and my father was trying to show and tell him information on what he found out about the type of cut of meat. The waiter rolled his eyes and ignored my father and rushed away. That was just the beginning. We had to ask for everything multiple times throughout the meal. Bread ( when we ordered drink and again getting our salads), drink refills ( manager took care of that when he checked on us) and new silverware because the host put the extras on the edge of the table and of course was knocked off ( as we sat down and again when steaks were brought out). Food was brought out my father and mothers steak was supposed to come with Béarnaise sauce and scallops. They forgot that. My father asked no sour cream on his potato. They forgot about that. I ordered the teriyaki sirloin and I tasted like it Marinated too long. It didn’t taste right and it was dry for even being medium rare. And when the waiter asked how it was, I let him know and he still had the attitude of I don’t care. So I’m not sure what’s worse, the manager coming to ask how things were before we even got food, the waiter, being rude, the food not being right, paying full price or that my parents spent their gift card that they got on their anniversary on this horrible service. I have been a server in the past so i know when you put effort into your table or not. Since this is supposed to be fine dining you should expect better *Avoid male waiter blonde hair, blue eyes, short, skinny and a hair style that looks like he ran...
