I really wanted to love Orion Donuts and support a small business, but we have now given the them 2 tries and were pretty disappointed both times. The first time we ordered a box of donuts and they were put in the box on their side, resulting in a hot mess of chocolate all over the place when we got home, pulled off from the donuts in front of the chocolate frosted ones. The custard filled Long John’s only had filling on either end, with the majority of the donut without any. The donuts were also sub par and nothing to write home about, which is pretty bad for $3.29 each. The second time we tried their breakfast sandwiches and were shocked that they looked and tasted like microwaved Jimmy Dean breakfast Sandwiches. They used the cheapest plain bagels I’ve seen which had a microwaved taste and texture with little meat and scrambled eggs. We will continue to drive over to Shakopee for the Donut Hole - their donuts and breakfast croissants are 10/10 and they always have a line to the door. I highly suggest Orion’s owners check it out to see what they...
Read moreI ordered a specialty cake for someone with severe dietary restrictions 1 month prior to the event. Given her dietary restrictions, and never having a birthday cake, I ordered a very specific cake. Again, 1 month prior to the event.
Picked up the cake and was told that, due to staffing issues, they didn’t have time to complete my cake as ordered. That was frustrating. I understand staffing issues, but I wish I had received a call regarding the change to my order. I was also frustrated as I gave a month notice.
Having said that, the cake was a wild success. The birthday girl could not believe how good the frosting was and how moist the cake was. Others also commented on how good the cake was. It, the cake, was compared to a Nadia’s cake and came out on top.
So, I am happy the birthday girl really enjoyed the cake. Just disappointed I was not given notice they were unable to complete my order as requested. I would have...
Read moreThe bakery is really in a tiny space in a strip center, and I am amazed at the variety and quality of baked goods which owner/chef Shannon turns out. My wife brought back a variety box of muffins and pastries. I had the best version of the standard cinnamon roll that I've ever had. Normally big as a discus, overly slimed with sugar which soaks the puffy insides. This was was smaller, tightly rolled, with a pastry that was great by itself, and the cinnamon was evident and the sweetness just right. The gluten free carrot muffin was a tasty little teaser. Shannon has a great story about learning the business by working in baking while raising a family, and then going to take a degree and a certificate as a master baker. We lost a similar quality shop near us about a decade back, so we are excited to have From Scratch here. Check the menu and stop by if you're...
