AMAZING. From the atmosphere/vibe to the service and then the FOOD. OMG the food. I visited Charleston last weekend to see some friends. I am the type of person who researches heavily on the best spots to eat and boy did I find it at Bok Choy Boy. I was expecting it to just be a restaurant, but was pleasantly surprised when I walked in to see a bar to the right, seating in the middle, and a cute little takeout window with a neon sign above it saying Bok Choy Boy. They have a couple of nice restrooms, a couple of foosball tables, and three awesome pinball machines in a small little private back room complete with a few booths to sit in. The waiter at the little takeout window was so sweet and when I asked for his favorites he did not disappoint. My friends and I ordered the dumplings, gochujang wings, crab fat fried rice, drunken noodles and pancit canton noodles. Everything was delicious. The crab fat fried rice and the drunken noodles were top-tier. I’m literally dreaming about those dishes back home in Atlanta. The only negative feedback I have is that I wish the wings were slightly smaller, less fatty and crispier. But the flavor was there! I really enjoyed the homemade pickles they put on the plate with the wings. We ordered some ciders and a beer from the bar and they were great as well. Everyone was so nice and welcoming. If I’m ever back in Charleston this will be my first...
Read morePredominant flavor profile of salt. The lumpia was rolled in salt. The tocino was undercooked with no char and not sweet - just mostly salty. The chicken in the dan dan noodles tasted off (either old or recooked), the chicken wings were very salty with minimal gochujang flavor, the crab fried rice had no flavors besides salty and old crab(I like strong crab/shrimp/fish flavor but this did not taste good). I understand that it's a container kitchen attached to a brewery so maybe the excessive salt is intentional for the beer drinkers but I do not recommend if you don't drink or if you want to bring a family here. I'm mixed Filipino and was excited to try some Filipino fusion flavors but was let down. I would not bring visiting family here to try it. If you do not have asian taste buds or like to drink a lot of alcohol while eating- you might like the food. But I personally didn't and am leaving a review for my fellow Asians/Pacific Islanders that you will be disappointed if you are expecting some awesome Asian fusion flavors - the recipes are not structured for your palate. The ambiance is a laid back brewery vibe and the bar has some of the best root beer I've ever had so that bumped...
Read moreAwful, just awful. The bartender is a sweetheart, but the older woman who works the food window ruins the dining experience. My husband and I came in to try this place out, we were the only ones in the restaurant and the bartender said we can seat ourselves. I noticed there weren’t any menus at the table we were at, so I went over to the food window and asked the woman for some menus. She very rudely said, “there are menus over there already” and i said “no ma'am, there are not”. She continued to say there were and kept her tone, I kept that smile on my face and said “Ma’am would you like to come see yourself?” She waddled over, and said “oh, im sorry about that!”
We still chose to place our orders and stay, despite the poor service. As a younger couple, I understand we may look like “teenagers who won’t tip” but that is no reason to talk down to us. We will not be returning, please fire this woman she is the reason your...
