Good food. Great place if you want a good breakfast. My only complaint is that even the meals that let you pick your own items come with biscuits and gravy. I am not a fan of biscuits and gravy, and so it would be a waste. They should let you substitute that. They do have some nice new food choices. They are currently offering a $5.00 take home meal. There were 3 choices. Chicken breast and mashed potatoes, meatloaf and Mac and cheese, and I think a sirloin steak one. I also wish they would offer some lunch food in the morning. The big fire place is really nice on cold days. We like that they still have the little puzzle games on the tables, and the little lanterns lit up. Hashbrown casserole is my favorite item, as I'm sure it is for most people. If you are on a sugar-free diet, then you will be happy to know that they offer Sugar Free syrup. I tried an iced caramel latte, which is fairly new, and you can get it hot also. And then there is the gift store ! I always find the best things there. Super cute clothes to toys to candy they had back in the day. This last visit there, they had a display of Wedding items you would use for decorating. This was perfect because I'm getting married this year. The prices are reasonable and the manager took my name and number because I wanted more of one item and he is going to try to order them for me. He certainly didn't have to do that, so that kind of customer service goes a long way. They still sell the wooden rocking chairs out front. We went on a Sunday around 9:30a and we didn't have to wait. We were seated right away and the server was prompt. It is a must stop if you have never been there before.

Cracker Barrel has been a breakfast stop on most of my family road trips over the years. It was always convenient to find one around most of the United States and when our sons were young. My mom and I always loved looking at things in the gift shop which probably drives my husband crazy to this day. I know it's not supposed to be a stop for shopping but they have some unique things in their store. This time stopping in Charleston, West Virginia (after being in the car for 6 hours) was a welcome break. Our waitress was so accommodating. Our food was good but I wish the grits and coffee were better. Also, I didn't realize we have to order the biscuits. Didn't the biscuits, jellies and jams come out to the table for free back in the day? Maybe I'm imagining things... Anyway, out of many locations visited over the years, I would say this is a good one because how I'm treated is going to make a big difference. Everyone from my waitress, a manager, the cashier and staff I passed were friendly!

The staff at the Charleston, WV Cracker Barrel location was polite, but lacked ambition. My family and I were quickly seen at the Hostess Stand and led to our table, but the number of empty tables that were still dirty was difficult to miss; they outnumbered the tables prepared for new guests. This would be easier to understand if every staff member was busy, but they weren't. The restrooms hadn't been attended for some time, and the trash was neglected. I'm also unsure if Cracker Barrel is still serving Biscuits and/or Cornbread with each meal; if so, this was never offered or received. Lastly, I ordered a side of fried okra and was disappointed to see eight (8) pieces of okra when my food was delivered. I understand portion distribution, but with the amount of okra received, I very well may have not ordered the side at all and received these as a fluke in the system. All in all, I was disappointed with this location.

TLDR-waited 2 hours for cold food, got very sick about an hour after. Will not go back again. Full story under this.

So an update. I did like this place. The first time, we were fine, this last time, I got very sick. My husband and I waited for about 25 minutes for our drinks, and then about 10 minutes to really order our food. We did go during lunch rush, but that was no excuse when people who was seated after us got waited on fast, and everything fast. We ordered fried pickles, and they came out very oily and no ranch on the plate. The pickles were hot, thank goodness, but still not a complete meal. We were hungry, so we ate it. About 3 minutes after it was brought to us, and we were almost finished, they brought the ranch. We finished up our pickles and started the long wait for our food. When we got our food, my husband ordered the chicken fried steak, and I the white fish, they were cold. The gravy on my husband's food looked like it sat in the window for about 10 minutes, and my coleslaw for my dish was warm. I got things I did not order, (it didn't show up on the bill), but still, I didn't order the food. My fish, was cold, and my husband said it was a little under cooked, but I ate it because I was hungry. Our bread basket was basically thrown on our table and it was a few biscuits and a corn muffin. No extra butter. I did ask for extra butter, but it never came. We were simi ignore by the waiters and our waiter. We sat in the restaurant for about 2 hours. After we are, because we were hungry, we went shopping for our food. About 30 minutes after, I felt so sick, and dizzy. We got home before the sickness hit. I was just sick enough to puke it up and after felt great. I don't know if it was good poisoning or myself, but I will not eat here again. 2 hours for crappy food and service. Oh yeah, there was another young couple there waited just as long as we did for food. But they were there earlier then us. I am wondering how they felt...

Stayed up late, slept in and didn’t feel like cooking breakfast, so we ordered Cracker Barrel.

I ordered “over medium” fried eggs, biscuits and gravy, crispy bacon and loaded hashbrowns. My wife ordered scrambled eggs, biscuit and gravy and sausage.

We just received our breakfast order from DoorDash. I should’ve saved $45 and cooked or ordered from Bob Evan’s.

The eggs were cooked to order and arrived warm enough to eat, no microwave necessary to reheat the food. The eggs were the only positive on the plate.

The biscuits were “okay”. They were small and super soft - too soft, very crumbly and didn’t hold up well when splitting them in half. The gravy was absolutely disgusting… it was like Elmer’s glue, sans the smell. I never ate glue as a kid but I’m betting it tastes better than Cracker Barrel’s gravy.

The sausage was absolutely disgusting. Imagine starting with a decent sausage patty, and having someone chew it up, suck all the flavor out of it, then spit it out and reform a patty with the bolus - that’s the best description of Cracker Barrel’s sausage. Super tender, no char, still had a pink hue, and just unpleasant to chew, no flavor. Sausage should have a crispy char with a tender center and be a flavorful savory salt and pepper bomb. This was the exact opposite. As an added bonus, my wife had ground bone in her sausage patty. We both spit out our sausage.

You get two options when you order bacon, crispy or soft. We ordered crispy bacon. The fat was not rendered and it was floppy - it was not cooked properly. You know what’s worse than a gross sausage patty? Uncooked pork bacon.

The loaded hashbrowns were not worth the money, maybe two tablespoons of hash smothered in a greasy pile of oily cheese and some bacon bits.

When you want breakfast delivered, do yourself a favor - order from Bob Evan’s in...

Went there twice in a row first day food was amazing service could've been better, second morning waited 20min to be greeted by a server apologizing that our server hasn't greeted us yet ( we were the first there and she greeted 3 tables before us). Asked if we could substitute as we have a gluten sensitivity she said no problem after leaving for 5min to go ask someone. Waited another 30min while everyone who came after was eating all ready, very frustrating when you have kids.Food was received a little overcooked on the eggs but that sometimes happens. Then we waited about another 30 minutes for our check she gave us time to eat but during this no refills on drinks. All others were long gone. The check came out and she didn't allow the substitution and charged my toddler for a meal when I asked for just a side, after getting frustrated another server came out and apologized and said she comped half the ticket for all the mistakes. She was very friendly and listened would've been 3 stars if it ended there! Then manager comes out and wants to here the problem walks away sends back the one server with new bill and nothing comped, I ask her and she says my manager wants you to pay this and get back the other bill. So then we talk to manager about which bill our we paying, she kept replying very loudly so you don't want to pay well what do you want to do? I explained I just thought after being here for well over 90 minutes and all the drama I was taking the discounted ticket that your server gave me as she said for the inconveniences. After about 5min she said fine. The other 5 days in town we took our business else where! I rather travel to the other location even though it was further then to deal with that...
