A Nice Change: Los Amigos in Kanawha City
I’ll be back to update this review with photos after my next visit, but I wanted to share my first impression of the newly opened Los Amigos. If you’re loyal to one of the other Mexican restaurants in town, it’s worth giving this place a try—it brings something fresh to the table.
The menu at Los Amigos stands out with unique dishes that go beyond the standard fare. For lunch, I ordered the Burrito Arizona, a hearty combination of eggs, potatoes, and chorizo that reminded me of a breakfast burrito. It was filling on its own, but the waiter recommended adding cheese sauce for an extra dollar, which turned out to be a great suggestion. Next time, I’ll order it “wet,” with cheese sauce and verde sauce, for an even better experience.
My lunch companions enjoyed a chicken burrito and a chicken quesadilla, both of which got high marks for flavor.
Even the little things impressed me—the chips and salsa were fresh, which is a nice change from the stale chips I often encounter elsewhere.
The interior has been given a vibrant update from the previous tenant, creating a welcoming and spacious atmosphere. I can see this spot getting busy during dinner service, but it’s also a great choice for a casual lunch.
Los Amigos is off to a strong start, and I’m looking forward to returning with my wife to explore more of the menu, take pictures, and enjoy another meal. This place has real potential to become a local favorite!
Edit: went for dinner on a Saturday evening. Ordered the chimichangas amigos which is two chicken and two beef with a guacamole salad. They are smaller but that’s ok because you get four. My wife ordered the vegetarian burrito...
Read moreMostly lovely evening with family. Unfortunately, there are choices made here which leaves much to be desired.
The food is mostly good, however it isn't all fresh. You can watch the chefs toss food frequently into the microwave.
Despite using the microwave, the food took a long time to come out, and it came out wrong. The server was quick to correct an issue, but the correction proved the food isn't fresh as the missing shrimp from the entree was quickly delivered, and at room temperature.
The mixers for the cocktails can be seen piled high at the bar. They are 'Daily's' brand mixers, which are incredibly poor quality. I would order a cocktail from here.
Yet somehow, they do better than other Mexican restaurants in the area. So, it's not a total miss. If I didn't review Mexican restaurants from around the country, I would rate this establishment a 4 - as it is still somehow better than the...
Read moreI always like to post positive reviews, but unfortunately I cannot for this restaurant. I ordered to go. None of the meals had any side dishes at all. I had ordered a lunch special for my mother and all I got was a plain burrito with no toppings, and no sides. The two chimichanga platters that I ordered also came the same way; no toppings no sides. On the receipt there was a list of toppings to add and sides and they ignored it. The only thing that was good about my meal was the tortilla chips. My chimichangas were bland; no flavor. I spent over $50 on these meals, and to say that I was disappointed is an understatement. I will not be going back to this restaurant again. The two pictures below are of my mom's chimichanga lunch special that comes with beans and rice. And the chimichanga amigos which come with guacamole sour cream...
