I have in the past written scathing reviews on Outback Steakhouse on Rivers Avenue, and this Outback Steakhouse has redeemed the brand considerably. The Sam Rittenberg location of Outback Steakhouse I have been to twice in the last week. My first experience with this location I was served by server name Liz who was very attentive and quite good at what she did. Unfortunately at the time I did not have my phone with me so I could not write or take pictures of what I had to eat but I was quite satisfied with the meal. My service was exceptional and Liz took care of me the entire meal. My second encounter I was waited on by two people, a gentleman and a woman, at the bar I did not catch either one of their names unfortunately. It was very busy on a Saturday night ,so I am not a person that would insist on such a thing. My food was quite good , the clam chowder was good, as was my main course. My only issue is that, on a corporate level, if Outback would consider a super potato, a somewhat larger baked potato for an additional charge. All in all, both of my experiences with the Sam Rittenberg location have been exceptional. Thank you.

I don’t ever leave reviews. However this one got to me. Friends took me out for a steak on my birthday. Mine was a strip medium rare, hers was medium. Both came out raw. Like RAWRAW..Short-staffed so waitress was in the weeds and we finished our sides before we could say anything. Figured a steak restaurant would know how to cook a steak.. Update: after waiting 3+ weeks for gift cards as compensation, I ordered online, cards didn’t work. Called in and spoke to manager, took order, said he’d handle it personally.. went to pick up food, shook his hand, got home and sides were wrong…fries instead of Mac n cheese which was on the receipt..called to let him know and he expected me to try and drive back that night to make it right. Had to go back to work so it wasn’t an option. Second attempt to try was a week later and got another raw steak… but the sides were right this time… really disappointed. If there was less than 1 star I would… shouldn’t have to call ahead and/or talk to the manager and explain that I am a dissatisfied customer to get decent food, and still have it be messed up🤷‍♂️

This location understaffed. Our Bloomin Onion could fit in my hand and was undercooked. My husband's broccoli was dark green/brown in color and his mashed potato was a baked potato, dry and chunks of skin everywhere. My steak was cooked correctly and tasted good. My daughter said her shrimp and chicken pasta tasted great. Our 3 year old granddaughter hated that they put chives in her Mac n cheese. It was ordered from the kids menu. We asked for a table at 6::42 and asked to pay at 9:12 pm. We missed a family event due to the length of this visit. Added: I will say that I was reached out to with an apology and gift cards/free bloomin onion and asked to give Outback another try. I am sure at some point we will do so but we aren't quite there yet. We have always loved Outback so maybe we'll give it a try soon.

We went in last night. I slept on it before sharing, but it was a pretty overwhelmingly negative eating experience. We were a party of two. 5minute wait to get sat- no biggie. Until you realize the wait is because the staff isn’t cleaning off tables until someone walks in the door and needs one. We spent the entirety of our time here surrounded by dirty tables covered in half-empty glasses and meal remnants. Food was fine, but mostly because we were both too hungry by the time it came out to want to wait for it to be fixed. My husband’s medium-rare filet came out medium-well and mine was medium at one end and medium-rare at the other like it was cooked unevenly. The broccoli had a strange sour taste to it and the plates were splattered with grease around the edges making them messy to touch. I would have said service was fine. We sat awhile before anyone came by, long enough that when our drink order was taken we went ahead and put in food as well. But at the end of the meal she came by to ask about desserts. When we declined, she scoffed and instead of taking our payment, went and chatted with another table for 15+ minutes. Nothing like being held hostage after a mediocre meal. My husband suggested I take our baby to the car while he waited for the check so a neighboring table’s screaming kid didn’t wake her. Good plan. The three employees by the hostess stand wished me a good night as I was making my way out- nice right? Except every unoccupied table in the restaurant is filthy and they’re watching me struggle to maneuver a stroller through two sets of double doors without a move to assist.

I hope management reads this. These issues are all directly due to management not training and holding staff accountable. Why was the manager not helping clear tables? Keeping servers on task instead of hanging at the hostess stand? Checking food before it left the kitchen? Swinging by to make sure guests are doing well? Etc. There’s way too many great restaurants in Charleston- at the same price point, with better food, service, and cleanliness- for us to...

WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!!!!

ALthough I am a Fan of the OUTBACK Brand .. this weekend in Charleston was the worst ever. Greeters at the door where GREAT! HANNAH ,THE server did her best with what she had to work with. The manager on duty ,who never told her name even after u asked , definitely made the wrong career choice. No matter what OUTBACK I visit I generally order the same , this time I didn't order the blooming onion . For her , we asked for a half rack baked potato ans salad, For me, Bloomin Chicken ,Sweet potatoe ans salad. With 2 waters. So I know how long it takes . Restaurant was lest that 1/3 capacity. It was about 6pm. I motice people coming in ans I noticed people leaving. Salads cam out after about 5 minutes. 3 tables around us where seated..2 tables that can 5-10 minutes after us receive there food. Hannah comes and apologize for the delay ans says she sees out food on the screen so it shouldn't be too much longer . 10 minutes later she comes to check on her and see we don't have food . Another server passes and I ask for a manager . At thus point I see Hannah ans the manager looking at me from a distance so I know they are aware I don't have food 45 minutes into my visit. A few minutes layer the manager comes ans just stares at me almost like she is waiting for me to apologize for interrupting her TV program. ALL SHE says is that the kitchen is backed up. Mind you ive been there 45 minutes ans when I arrived the place wasn't busy. I tell her I can't stay any longer and will pay for the sald but I'm leaving. She literally ROLLS HER eyes and walks away. No apologies. Hannah brings me a bill for $13.30. I'm on the business and i know $13 is not worth this review nor loosing customes. People skills are needed within the mgr staff along with knowing when to make things right for your guest . And nothing about this...

My wife and I stopped in last night, March 23rd, admittingly a little later (830 pm) but we knew what we wanted to order immediately. The bartender threw menus at us and aggressively just said "what do you want". I ordered the blooming onion immediately and was going to give her our shared entree but she just yelled "I'll put that in now" and hurried away. The blooming onion came out and was missing pieces from it already.

This whole time, this female bartender, was talking loudly about getting off soon and was banging and slamming dishes--she even slammed a glass out of her dishwasher onto another in the bar well and it smashed (i worked in f&b for a long time). She just collected the big chunks that broke but never checked her ice well for glass and left the mess for someone else. If i didnt find this more amusing for how badly this girl did not want to be there, then she would have pretty much ruined the night. She def ruined it for my wife.

When our steak and chicken came out, the chicken was the size of a nugget, no mushrooms or other vegetables as promised. The manager came over to my wife as the bartender lingered and his response to all of this was frankly, Mistakes happen--but offered no solution or assistance. Thank you, Andrew, and to the bartender with hearing aids who definitely shouldn't be in a service industry. You don't even have to explain the dishes...

To top it off, I went to the restroom, my wife got in the car and the bartender was making fun of my wife and I when I came out. Really cool time, guys!

I'll end this by adding we get take out or have a quick meal at the bar probably once a month to get out of the house and this is the first time we had any issues, though, now we probably are not...
