Walked in the door, and the first 4 things I noticed were, eye popping color, cleanliness, warmth, and someone calling out, "Welcome to Phat Daddy's." So, the color, not sure if everyone would care for it, but I found the bright colors to be cheerful and welcoming, loved it! Cleanliness smelled clean. Looked clean and no sticky residues on the table, seats or menus-was CLEAN. That is a huge plus in my book. Warm, not sure if the air conditioner wasn't working, but it was it was warm in the building, but not uncomfortable as they had ceiling fans going and we sat near one and we were comfortable. I just mentioned it because that was a first impression. Friendly welcome from Hannah, and her energetic , outgoing personality made us feel welcome and appreciated. She got us situated and asked if we had ever been (no), ten proceeded to explain the specials, told us what they had for drinks and asked if we would like to try the Phat Daddy's splash? Yes! Please! Apparently, it is a drink with juice, ice tea, and lemonade, if I remember correctly, was awesome! While she got the drinks we decided what we wanted to eat and when she returned we ordered. We had the Mac and cheese wrap, 1 with chicken and the other pork with fries and the chopped cheese sandwich with fries. It took a little time, and when everything came out, it was fresh, hot, and super delicious. We gorged ourselves, which was kind of sad, because Hannah let us know from the beginning that she had 6 layer chocolate cake, carrot cake and a bundt cake, all homemade. Unfortunately, I didn't get to try any of the desserts, I was too full from the excellent wrap and fries. But I am determined to get back there and get dessert too, even if I have to...
Read moreNow located on 6th Street near Patrick St in Charleston, WV. This hidden gem with all homemade food is something all should try! The wintertime potato soup was absolutely the very best I've ever had. It wasn't just an ordinary, potato tasting version, but something that was creamy with most delicious seasonings that you could see and enjoy the potatoes in every bite. It was so good that I wanted to slowly savor each and every single bite. Next, I enjoyed a unique tasting, tender beef brisket on a chibata roll. I got a tangy BBQ sauce on the side. Again, the seasonings were different and sooooo good. Everything is made fresh here! You order at the window and a very friendly person calls your name when it's ready. Remember that this is deck seating under umbrella tables, so consider this a fair weather stop or eat in your car like you do at a fast food place.. Look at the photos, and see there is a bench for sitting near the wonderfully smelling tub fireplace just in case you want some heat. Parking is easy right out front. And, plenty of tables. If you are traveling down Rt64, you should punch it in your GPS. Its worth it. I'm sure you'll be glad that you did. No waiting in line. Plenty of tables with fast friendly service. Sit inside or outside. Lots of parking. The menu has brisket, hot dogs, and also chicken and shrimp dishes, and even fresh made empenada's. Great variety of hotdogs with homemade chili and slaw, or chili 'n cheeseI The Mac n cheese bites are theeeee very best you'll ever have! Mmmmmmm.....I'm getting hungry just thinking about it. I think I'll go there for lunch today. You should, too, as I highly recommend this great BBQ stop. Now, serving...
Read moreWas visiting the area from out of state and went here for dinner after receiving multiple recommendations from the locals to check this place out. Arrived at the restaurant around 7:30pm. The employee that was taking my order was somewhat rude when communicating with me while another employee would walk between my friends and I on multiple occasions without once saying excuse me. After placing our order, we waited roughly 45 minutes for our food. When my food arrived, the broccoli and Mac and cheese was lukewarm while the catfish was just warm. The Mac and cheese was very bland and dry. The steamed broccoli had an after taste that I couldn't put my finger on. The catfish was decent but only after it was dipped in hot sauce. As an Out of Towner soul food connoisseur, I was disappointed with my experience at this...
