Grey Gables Restaurant & Catering — Restaurant in Charlevoix

I booked Grey Gables Restaurant & Catering for a wedding, so this review will be related to that event. We had booked Grey Gables over a year in advance of our wedding (and we almost didn't get our date). Katie, the manager, was very easy to talk to. She hopped on phone calls and zoom calls with us to make sure we had everything we needed for our wedding. We were able to do a free tasting at the restaurant to pick out what meal we wanted. We got to try as many options as we wanted. For our wedding we went with the braised beef and chicken pomodoro option. It came with mashed potatoes, green beans, and a parmesan cheese wedge (to give it some height, as they said). We also had a vegetarian quinoa bowl option for vegetarians. About a month before the wedding they sent a questionnaire about how our wedding will go and the layout. They even asked questions like "Do you want drinks at the head table for your wedding party when you arrive." They really covered everything. Other questions included dietary restrictions for anyone, and I provided the names and table numbers of everyone and they gave everyone the correct food option at each table. The food was absolutely delicious. They had to make the food at the restaurant and bring it over, and the food was hot and not cold. I got so many comments after the wedding about how good the food was. Their service was also impeccable. They had several wait staff providing the food and water for each table, they also cut and served our wedding cake at no extra charge. They included all the plates, flatware, linens, etc for our event at no extra cost as well. This was huge for us. We also used their bartenders for our bar. We were able to have a signature drink (His and Hers) and we provided them with the recipe and they made it perfectly the day of the event! They even let me change an ingredient last minute. We were able to provide all of our alcohol and beer, but they provided classic mixers, lemons/limes, cups, and we could buy a keg of beer from them. Their bartending staff were excellent. Very fun throughout the night but professional and efficient with the service. The staff also helped set up our late night snack (popcorn) even though we did not get a late night snack through them. Overall, I cannot explain how impressed I was with this restaurant. Their catering services are amazing, very professional, responsive to emails, and I got so many compliments at the wedding about how good the food was and how excellent the service was. We hired Grey Gables to cater our wedding at Castle Farms. We went with the combination plate of beef and chicken. All of our guests said the food was wonderful (and we thought so too!).

Leading up to the wedding communication was prompt, clear, and helpful. Katie answered all of our questions well and was willing to work with us to make small changes to the contract close to the wedding (updated guest count, removal of services, adding of others, etc.). We live about 4 hours away so email contact worked best for us and they always responded with what we needed.

During the event the staff was efficient and nearly invisible (in the good way). The only time they asked for any of our attention on the day of was when they were floating to make sure everything was going smoothly and happened to catch the glance of the groom. They thought the glance meant we needed something and immediately came over to the head table to check. It turned out that we didn't but it demonstrates just how on top of the event they were. During last call the bartender came up to us and made sure that we didn't need anything before they left, which was also a great demonstration of how hard they were working to make sure we were taken care of.

Grey Gables was the perfect venue for our small wedding reception (32). We have become fast regulars here over this past year leading up to our event-the food quality is just amazing! The staff was extremely professional and well-organized. Coordination and communication were top notch. Katie was great to work with. She always got back to us quickly and answered all of our questions. There was some confusion over it being a wedding reception and that is a different price than a private party dinner just FYI. Katie met us at the venue and made sure that the room was set up just how we wanted it. We were allowed to bring in flowers and high top rented tables and our cake lady was allowed in early to set up. Kenroy was our one and only server and everyone was BEYOND impressed with him!!!! He didn’t miss a beat-served all drinks, delicious bread and scones and salads, the main meals and did the cake service flawlessly and quickly. He was cheerful and outgoing with everyone and answered everyone’s questions with ease-I’m not kidding, you would think there were 5 people working our room-so many compliments on Kenroy!!!!!!
