My wife and I would strongly advise you to avoid Charlevoix House--Northside in Charlevoix Michigan. On a recent visit (July, 2023) to northern Michigan we were impressed by the many outstanding accommodations and hosts we encountered on our 10-day trip. Not so with the Charlevoix House --Northside. Instead of finding a âfully rehabbedâ quality bed and breakfast as described on the propertyâs website, what we encountered was more akin to a poorly maintained fraternity houseârotten, abused woodwork, cracked sheetrock, damaged door jams, sagging mattress, dormitory type bedding, banged up furniture, spiders and spider webs in the upstairs hall, unusable, peeling porch furniture, unkept yard and walk, unsightly, peeling porch floors, steps, and rails, rotten, broken and missing fencing, and more. For a one-night stay totaling $287.49 we would have expected more than a fraternity house type property. Donât be taken in by the outrageously exaggerated description of this âGorgeous Victorian Innâ that âsparkles when you walk inâ as put forth in the Charlevoix House website. It does not sparkle, to say the least. Donât believe old favorable reviews. For example, youâll note that nearly all reviews on Trip Advisor pre-date the...
Read moreOur recent visit to the Charlevoix House was nothing short of exceptional. Nestled within walking distance of the charming town, this cozy inn offers both convenience and tranquility. My wife and I stayed here during my recovery from a recent surgery, seeking rest and healing, and we couldnât have chosen a better place.
The innkeeper, Terry, truly made our stay unforgettable. From the moment we arrived, Terry went above and beyond to ensure we were comfortable, cared for, and well-accommodated. Her warm hospitality and genuine kindness made us feel right at home. She also shared incredible insights into the rich history of Charlevoix, adding a unique and personal touch to our experience.
The peaceful ambiance of the inn, coupled with Terryâs thoughtful attention to detail, created a restorative environment that I will always cherish. For anyone seeking a welcoming retreat with the perfect balance of history, comfort, and care, the Charlevoix House is an...
Read moreThis is NOT a charming Victorian house but rather a run-down building. It has been poorly maintained including dirty, slippery carpet on the narrow; curving stairway (tricky when carrying up luggage); and rough plaster walls in the bedroom. Our room had a tiny, one-person bathroom that was clearly an add-on (you can see the original, filthy floor inside the bath cabinet). No screens on the single-pane windows in the bedroom on the street side to enjoy the fresh air without attracting bugs in the room. The worst aspect: the house is close to the street which is a main thoroughfare through the town = constant, major traffic noise a few feet from the front of the house! The host, Terri, was the only good thing about this place. Apparently the owner lives in Chicago so it's a good source of income and good write-off for him, while taking no responsibility for improving the place. Definitely NOT...
