This is not what we expected when we booked thru Airbnb. Yes it is in a terrific walkable location. The communication with "Justin" (the name on the Airbnb account) was very slow and vague. We -- two female friends -- stayed in the cottage suite. The king bed was nice but the room itself was definitely not a 5 star or even 4 star experience. There was no art on the walls. No glasses or cups in the bathroom. The lights over the sink and bed were bare bulbs. There was no side table or lamp in the second sleeping area. Most hotels and airbnbs provide a booklet that explains the wifi, how to turn on/off the heat (baseboard heaters), info on parking, nearby hotels, when checkout is, etc. None of that was provided. However there was a prominent card asking for a tip for the innkeeper. I was awakened at 7 am by the repeated banging of cupboards directly below me (the kitchen was below the sunroom sleeping area). The shower stall was narrow and impossible to shave one's legs. If you wanted to use the complimentary toiletries, be aware they look as though they were from an Embassy Suites cart.
Steffan was pleasant and did leave his cell number which we used to request a couple of items. However when we arrived I wouldn't have pinned him down as the innkeeper. I thought maybe he was cleaner or a maintenance person as he was dressed in a tee shirt and gym shorts and wore headphones. There was a moving dolly with a small fridge parked in the living area both days we stayed and the doors were unmarked on the first floor so it was unclear what was private space and what was shared space. No tour was offered so we didn't even know where breakfast would be served. Breakfast was from 8-10 but by the time we got to breakfast at 9:20 it was sitting out and cold on the counter, having been half consumed by other guests.
This place certainly has its charm and it (and Steffan) have potential. But...
Read moreI Recommend Charlevoix House BnB. Jennifer and I decided to take a spontaneous trip (5 hours) to Charlevoix where we got married almost 6 years ago for some RnR. We stopped at our favorite Cafe That French Place and got Mochas and Crepes. We went to the beach and fell asleep in the sand listening to the waves. We decided to look for a place to sleep for the night to really let go, relax and be. As we were walking around, we decided to walk to The Charlevoix House to see their pricing and availability (remember unplanned and un budgeted adventure). We were met by Amber and was graciously welcomed like we were long time friends/family. Amber showed us a room and we talked for a bit but were not sure if we were going to truly stay so we went walking around enjoying the beautiful day. Instead of calling Amber, like we told her we would if we were or weren't going to stay, we walked back. Amber let us know there is another room and asked if we would like to see it and we did. It was on the top floor (2 flight of stairs) and instantly it was inviting to us. It was peaceful, cool with the A/C and had this exciting cuteness to it. We felt called to this room and booked it. We got our key and left again for another walk this time for Naan pizza at bridge street tap room. When we came back to our room, I showered and then Jennifer took a long, hot bath. We both went to sleep super early (we usually go to bed at midnight but we were in bed by 9pm! 13 hours later, we woke up relaxed and refreshed! We will definitely book a room here with Amber again!!! PS if you book online, without seeing first, the stairs going up will be a bit challenging IF you have large luggage such as a suitcase 😉 duffel bag and backpack are much easier to get up the second...
Read moreWhen I first arrived to the house on Thursday afternoon of 3/18/21 I was waiting in the front for quite sometime before I called the number provided in the reservation. I then spoke to a Justin Brown who told me it was odd that the host was not there to greet me. Justin called her and she didn't answer so I wandered to the back of the house looking for someone and saw a phone ringing on a bed in one of the rooms. He called back and I told him he insisted she must be there. As I walked into another room I saw a woman without her mask asleep on a folded bed. I woke her up and informed her I was to be staying there, she was confused waking up from the nap but then told me she was the host and that this was my room. She didn't change the sheets, she didn't put on a mask but showed me around the house. The next day Friday 3/19/21 I got a call from Justin saying that the host had come into contact with someone who tested positive for COVID and they should know that night if it was positive. Justin down played her contact and was assuring me he trusted it would come back negative. The test didn't come back until Saturday 3/20/21 and it was positive. I had to leave and get a rapid test before seeing my family. Justin wanted to know the results and only refunded me partially, I paid $217.11 and he refunded me $89.00 because he said I got some use of it. Don't stay here, give your money to someone who respects your money,...
