American Deli — Restaurant in Charlotte

HORRIBLE customer service. I went to pick up an order as a delivery driver. I went in and stood at the counter and and waited to be greeted. They all looked at me and went back to talking with each other. I called out to them minutes later and they all ignored me. About 10 minutes later the person who was wiping down tables came over to ask if I was placing an order. I said no I am here for a delivery pickup and told him the name. He walked away and I assumed it was to go get the order but no. He went back to wiping tables and didn’t say anything to anyone else about the order. I thought… what was the point of you asking to not go get it for me???? There was one other customer in there waiting who was there already when I arrived. The guy who was wiping tables came around the counter eventually and picked up an order that was on the counter and gave it to the other customer. The customer said “so I’ve been standing here 30 minutes waiting for an order that’s been sitting there getting cold this whole time?” They all either rolled their eyes or started laughing at how upset the customer was. No apologies no attempts to make things right. They practically threw down the food I was waiting for and slammed down the cup and told me to make the persons drink myself. No have a great day or anything. The order I was there for was already ready and waiting when I walked in. All they had to do was hand it to me but because of their LACK OF CUSTOMER SERVICE I was there for 20 minutes when it could have easily been 2. Management- get your...

I went here on Saturday, 9/13 to get a 10 piece wing combo. 3 of the wings were abnormally tiny. Not just small, but extremely tiny with almost no meat on them. That isn't why I am giving 1 star though. Something like that can easily be fixed. My issue is the disgusting attitude of the cashier when I politely asked to exchange them for normal sized wings. She refused repeatedly. Even after I showed her a comparison of the micro wings to a regular sized wing. She stated "We just have small wings. Our wings are just small." I very, very politely explained to her that these are not just "small wings" they have no meat on them. They are abnormally tiny. Finally, with a heavy sigh and eye roll she says "gimme". I said "thank you ma'am" in a very polite tone and she grabbed my box, clearly annoyed and walked off. She threw two of the tiny wings away and replaced them. Them she handed me back the box, looking to the side to intentionally avoid eye contact. I politely said "thank you" to which she rolled her eyes and did not respond. I dont understand if I was very polite throughout the entire situation, why was I treated this way??? Why was she being overly nasty to me? I wasnt asking for anything for free. I just wanted wings that actually had meat on them. These were not simply "small wings", they were abnormally. She could see that! So why all the nasty attitude?? I used to come here all the time, but now I feel like I should never return if that's how I am going to be...

I normally don’t leave reviews, but this experience was unacceptable. When I ordered, I asked for a choice between crispy fries or crispy, chicken, and the staff didn’t seem to understand the difference between “crispy” and “extra crispy.” I specifically requested that the fries not be cooked until they were like chips and that the chicken be crispy—not overcooked. Despite that, the chicken was cooked so hard it was practically inedible, with barely any meat left.

When I brought these issues to their attention, I noticed a clear shift in how my food was handled afterward. Disturbingly, I found something in my fries that looked like a shrimp vein or some kind of digestive tract. That’s completely unacceptable and makes me question the cleanliness and safety standards of this place.

The staff seems to joke around a lot instead of taking the job seriously. I have no idea who the owner is, but they need to start doing unannounced visits more often to see what’s really going on. If things don’t change soon, I’ll be reaching out to the health department. If I get...
