I really hate that I had to give this restaurant a one star. Bachi was recommended to me by my Yelp Elite friends so I was expecting a great experience. Unfortunately, it was the complete opposite. I am eating a vegan diet at the moment and I was very pleased to see they had a vegan section on the menu. I ordered the fried cauliflower, a side salad, a side of veggies, and the King Liam sushi roll which was fried plantain, carrots, cucumber, vegan cream cheese, topped with a spicy vegan mayo. Those were the exact ingredients listed on the menu. When I got the sushi roll, I ate one piece of the sushi and immediately knew something was wrong. My throat started to itch and my tongue started to swell. I called the waitress over and told her I was having an allergic reaction and I needed to see the menu again. I wanted to ensure that I didn’t over look any ingredients that were listed. Upon the review of the menu, I asked her to ask management what ingredients were in the vegan cream cheese and mayo. Come to find out the vegan mayo is based with tree nuts. I immediately panicked because I have a nut allergy. I am not deathly allergic, but I do have tongue swelling, throat itching, and an upset stomach whenever I come in contact with any kind of tree nut. I told the cook that it needs to state on the menu that this menu item contains tree nuts because there are a lot of people that have a tree nut allergy. I took and Allegra because that’s all I had at the moment and the itching and swelling stop within 30 min. I finished the rest of my food items. When the check came I noticed that the sushi roll was still listed on my check. I asked the waitress why was it still on my check and I sent it back immediately after the first piece AND I experienced an allergic reaction. The waitress said that she would have to talk with the manager to see if they would take it off. The manager came out and spoke to me from behind the counter. I felt that was extremely rude. The least he could have done was come over to where we were seated. He then proceeded to say that I should have told them I have a nut allergy before ordering. I have never in my life been to a place that doesn’t list nuts, or “may contain tree nuts” on menu items that indeed have nuts in them. Then he went and pulled the container of the vegan mayo and showed the ingredients. I’m still trying to figure out his reasoning for showing me a package that was in your kitchen that as a consumer I would of had no idea contained nuts. I flat out told him I wasn’t paying $9 for a roll that I had one piece of and sent back because of their negligence. He then stated he thought I ate the whole roll. So clearly there’s a lack of communication between you and your staff. I work for public health and I will definitely be contacting my colleagues in environmental health to address this issue. I have pictures of the menu and even took a to go menu to show that tree nuts aren’t listed on their menu. Had I had a more severe reaction and had to go to the hospital this would of easily been a lawsuit. Despite the fact that I had this reaction, the way the situation was handled was subpar and way below standards. My friend enjoyed her food and thought it tasted good. However, the whole...
Read moreWhere do I begin? Bachi has a relaxed vibe and seating is free style, you seat yourself. We decided to sit at the bar where the sushi is prepared. We noticed that the menu is expansive with lots of famiiar and tasty options. On the back of the menu is a surprising Vegan Menu...now this is awesome right? It is a great idea for Vegan lovers and for those who are stepping into the "eat more plants world" I did ask one menu question "what veggies come with the Grilled Veggie Kabobs" although the waitress did not know the answer, she did ask and I brushed off her lack of the menu as maybe she is new. I ordered the Edamame and the Hibachi Shrimp. Both are a good value for the amount of food you get. The Edamame was perfectly seasoned. My friend ordered the Crispy Cauliflower Wing, King Liam Roll, Mixed Veggies, and Garlic Noodles. This is when the challenge begins...a few minutes after her first bite of the King Liam Roll, she says "I do not feel right, my mouth is itchy, and I feel swelling. We grab a menu and read over the ingredients to ensure we did not miss something. She has a tree nut allergy and no where did we see mention of tree nuts in the items she ordered. We asked the waitress if there are nuts in the King Liam Roll and once again, she did NOT know the answer, she asked the sushi chef and he immediatly says yes, there are nuts in the vegan mayo...yikes that is the problem. She stated it does not say this on the menu. The waitress takes the dish away, and although not allerigic to the point of immediate leaving lets go to the hosipital it is a concern as the only food warning on the menu is "please ask about glueten free availability" and "consuming raw or undercook meats...." you know the rest, but no mention of tree nuts. Seems werid to me, we move on and eat the rest of the meal. When it came to cash out the King LIam Roll was still on the bill, the waitress says let me ask my manager...what?? She made no mention to her manager at all in the last 20 minutes that someone had an allergic reaction and that this item needed to be removed from the bill. Just no sense of urgency. When the manager comes out he is speaking to us from over the sushi bar, as if there is a separation of us vs. them and his body language was cold he says "you did not tell us that you have a tree nut allergy" this was dissapointing and not a great way to solve a customer serivce issue in any environment. He said that he was not obligated to list on the menu that the vegan mayo contains tree nuts and even showed us the container that contains the mayo and says see it says nuts on the container. It was almost implied that people who are vegan know this...good grief. After repeating the same things for approx 3minutes (what a waste of energy) he states oh the watiress did not tell me that you did not eat the rest of it. I realized very quickly that we were dealing with someone that believes they are "RIGHT" all the time. He did remove the $9.00 charge at the end however I will not be returning to this establishment due to the lack of knowledge/training for front line staff, intimidation from managment and lack of empathy from the...
Read moreTerrible experience. We went for Valentines Day. It was not more busy compared to other times I have been here. It starts with the waitress having no idea what the valentines “special” is. She tells is totally confused it’s two combos one free app. So we decided to do that. As we order she tells us oh you can’t have that app. It’s a specific list... so then give us the actual list.. ? Which she does and the “free app” is a smaller portion of what you would pay for. So in reality if you’re 100% paying for the app as the combo is hardly larger than the meal but you pay a minimum of $4 more. The food comes out and they give the person I’m with the wrong order which the waitress admits is their fault for ringing it up wrong. So here we are unable to eat together for our valentines date. The noodles and I can’t stress this enough taste like you went and bought some spaghetti noodle and just dumped pepper all over them. They were awful. I ate mine as I have the mindset to eat what you pay for and everyone around us you could see all the pepper just laying in them but the person I was with could not even eat them. We also did not get any refills. I inform them of these troubles and the middle man says ok I will see about getting this half off for you. He then comes back and says the manager offers 10% off for the next visit! Are you for real? Half off, to that offer.. I told him that’s dumb. He comes back from the manager again and hands me the 10% coupon for the next visit. Not even the one they just screwed up. I will never go back here. I’ve been multiple times but never again. The manager is obviously a COWARD and a CHEAPSKATE. I knew the manager was a cheapskate form the stupid “free app” but they got to show how much a coward they are from hiding in the back and having their middle man run back and forth instead of coming out and making it right. First 10% doesn’t cover anything and 2nd to make it on the next visit because you’re so money focused you want to ensure you get more money from people you provided terrible service to is ridiculous. What a coward what a pathetic excuse...
