Party of 6 at 5pm on a Monday. We were the 2nd party to arrive following a party of 2 so the establishment was not busy. It actually was not even busy when we left either so it being busy cannot be the excuse for terrible service. The hostess was friendly. Our waitress was not. No smile or friendliness. She was nowhere to be found when we needed her. I ordered a spicy bloody Mary. It wasn't spicy. It was not that good, but I finished it as to not waste money. She never asked me if I wanted another, if I wanted something else, or to refill my water so I had no drink. The water is unfiltered Charlotte tap water, which was gross, but I had nothing else to drink. She forgot my son's Sprite too. I had to remind her when she brought the appetizers as she never returned. The fried green tomatoes were okay. Nothing special. The rolls were hard and served with cold, hard butter that couldn't be spread and when we tried it ripped the hard rolls into crumbs. She never asked if we wanted refills or gave us refills on anything. I got the cajun pasta and it was good. My husband got the shrimp and grits and said it was good, but he would not get it again. My aunt and uncle loved the 16 oz steak. The kids shrimp and chicken have spicy breading on them so they ate a couple French fries and that was it. I know it's a cajun restaurant, but most kids don't like spicy. They should offer breading that isn't spicy at least. What a waste of money that was. The waitress was mostly nonexistent. She didn't check on us or ask us if we needed anything. We couldn't find her to ask. My husband, 2 kids and I had just gotten home from a 6.5 drive from out of town for Labor Day and my aunt and uncle drove up from SC to fly out to Vegas the next day. We were all tired and probably didn't look our best, but it was most definitely obvious she thought we were poor trash that wasn't going to tip her well so she didn't waste her time on trying with us. You don't judge a book by its cover though. My aunt paid for the meal and tipped generously in cash although I don't feel like the waitress deserved it. After that tip I hope the waitress doesn't treat anyone else the way she treated us. I will say the young man did clear our dirty plates in a timely manner and was walking around constantly checking on tables. We do not plan...
Read moreI am writing to express my deep disappointment with the experience I had at your restaurant on 1/13. As a long-time patron of Cajun Queen, I have always held your establishment in high regard and have recommended it to friends and family. However, my recent visit has left me with a sense of frustration and disillusionment.
I had chosen Cajun Queen as the venue to celebrate my birthday with a group of friends, hoping to enjoy the wonderful ambiance and delicious food that I have come to associate with your establishment. Unfortunately, our celebration was marred by an incident that deeply upset us. We were abruptly asked to vacate our table because, as we were informed, there were patrons waiting for seating. Despite our willingness to continue our celebration and engage in great conversations, we were offered no alternative but to relocate to the bar, with the offer of complimentary drinks that we did not desire.
What compounded the disappointment was the lack of any prior indication, whether on your website or during the reservation process, regarding a time limit on dining in. Furthermore, it was disheartening to observe that other parties, who arrived around the same time as us, were not subjected to a similar request to leave. I was especially troubled by the apparent discrepancy in treatment, as a table of six black patrons was asked to leave while tables occupied by white patrons were not.
When I attempted to address this issue with the manager on duty, I was met with dismissive and apathetic responses, which only served to further exacerbate the situation. It was deeply disheartening to feel that we were disregarded after having spent our hard-earned money at your establishment.
I want to emphasize that I have always cherished the food and atmosphere at Cajun Queen, and it is with a heavy heart that I declare my decision not to return in the future. It is my sincere hope that this feedback will be taken seriously and that steps will be taken to ensure that such incidents do not recur in the future.
Thank you for taking the time to read my concerns. I hope that my feedback can contribute to the improvement of your establishment and the experiences of...
Read moreFirst off I can really appreciate the location and valet parking. We drove from out of town and I was concerned about the possible downtown "hustle&bustle." Now to the food. I can agree with most reviews about the bread, definitely day old bread, yet the flavor was still enjoyable so that didn't stop our excitement about being newbies. I watch my sodium intake so of course I was prepared for a dry mouth for some good food but I was surprised that it wasn't salty at all ( A+). Our waiter was quite the social, sarcastic(in a good way) ,drama major but we appreciated his ability to be so comfortable, be himself and still be professional. For an appetizer we did the Crawfish Popcorn which was absolutely delicious with a light and tangy remoulade. For sure kept our curiosity going. For the main courses my partner had the Duck (medium) it was such a nice, non-greasy, flavorful delight. It was cooked to medium perfection!!!! The side of vegetables were horrible the green beans and peppers lacked cook time and flavor. I had the Blackened Catfish with the daily topping, which was also cooked to absolute perfection. Here are the downers. The crawfish topping had good flavor, yet the crawfish was tough on both plates. The garlic mashed potatoes are yummy especially with the dripping from juicy fish. However my utter disappoint was to have perfectly cooked meat that taste like the grill it for sure needed some cleaning. I scrapped some of the blackened seasoning off my catfish and then got the real flavor. They give you nice size portions (could even share). The star of the night was the amazing bread pudding. I can't place the words I need for the rich flavor. Absolutely my favorite part!!! Don't come expecting authentic New Orleans if you have ever had the chance to visit the lovely Nola. The concept is spot on Nola ,yet there is still work to be done to be on Nola status. I was overall disappointed but not enough to not give it another go round with brunch or a...
