As we gathered in Charlotte to celebrate my daughter's graduation from UNC Charlotte, there was one essential element on our itinerary: a visit to McKoy's, our tried-and-true BBQ haven. Over the years, through countless visits to the area, McKoy's has emerged as more than just a restaurant; it's become a cherished tradition, a place where we've savored some of the finest BBQ flavors the Carolinas have to offer. And once again, McKoy's did not disappoint.
From the moment we stepped through the door, the aroma of slow-cooked meats filled the air, instantly whetting our appetites and igniting our excitement for what was to come. With eager anticipation, we perused the menu, but in the end, our favorites won out: pulled pork, ribs, and a selection of classic sides.
The pulled pork, a signature dish at McKoy's, was everything we remembered and more. Tender, succulent, and bursting with flavor, it was a testament to the artistry of slow-smoking and the dedication of McKoy's pitmasters. Each bite melted in our mouths, leaving behind a symphony of smoky, savory goodness that lingered long after the plate was empty.
But the true stars of the show were undoubtedly the ribs. Glazed to perfection, with a tantalizing balance of sweetness and spice, they exemplified BBQ excellence. The meat fell effortlessly off the bone, revealing layers of smoky tenderness that had us reaching for seconds before we even finished the first serving.
Of course, no BBQ feast would be complete without a selection of sides, and McKoy's delivered on all fronts. The mac and cheese, creamy and indulgent, provided the perfect counterpoint to the rich flavors of the meats. The coleslaw, crisp and refreshing, offered a welcome palate cleanser between bites. And the potato salad, with its tangy dressing and hearty chunks of potato, added a comforting touch of home-cooked goodness to the meal.
As we savored each mouthful, surrounded by the warmth and camaraderie of family and friends, it became clear that McKoy's was more than just a restaurant; it was the backdrop to some of our most cherished memories. And on this special occasion, as we celebrated a milestone in my daughter's journey, McCoy's once again proved why it holds a special place in our hearts—and our stomachs.
In conclusion, if you find yourself in Charlotte craving authentic, mouthwatering BBQ, look no further than McKoy's. With its unbeatable combination of top-notch meats, flavorful sides, and welcoming atmosphere, it's sure to satisfy even the most discerning BBQ aficionado. Trust me—you won't be...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at McKoy's Smokehouse and Saloon, and it was a truly memorable experience deserving of five stars. From the moment I walked in, the rustic and welcoming ambiance made me feel right at home. The warm, inviting decor and friendly staff set the stage for what would be an exceptional meal.
The menu at McKoy's offers an impressive selection of classic Southern BBQ dishes, and everything we tried was absolutely delicious. We started with the smoked wings, which were perfectly seasoned and tender. For the main course, I opted for the pulled pork platter, which was juicy, flavorful, and accompanied by a delectable array of sides including mac and cheese and collard greens. Each bite was a testament to the care and expertise that goes into their smoking process.
What truly stood out was the impeccable service. Our server was attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely enthusiastic about the menu, offering great recommendations and ensuring we had everything we needed.
To top it all off, the homemade desserts were the perfect ending to a fantastic meal. The banana pudding was creamy and rich, just like a Southern dessert should be.
Overall, McKoy's Smokehouse and Saloon delivers an outstanding dining experience with its top-notch BBQ, warm atmosphere, and exceptional service. It's a must-visit for anyone who loves great food and a welcoming vibe. I can't wait to return and explore more of their menu. Five stars...
Read moreDecided to try this BBQ place, the decor looks good. I was seated inside and took a while for the waitress to take my order, she kept walking by with one excuse after another why she didn’t take my order. When she did stop to take my order, I started telling her what I wanted and she interrupted me to tell me she forgot her pen and left again. When she came back, I had to start over. I ordered a beer and it was room temperature. For the meal, I ordered the small pork plate with fried okra and the green beans. When the meal arrived, the pork was so watered down the bowls with the okra and beans were sitting in it and I had to send it back for a different plate of pork. That time it wasn’t watered down. I mentioned to one of the employees and was told it was a sauce in the pork. The BBQ sauces were ok, one tasted like fancy ketchup. I know from experience that some restaurants water down the meat when it has been cooked several day before to try to moisten it up, plus the pork had a somewhat smoke flavor but no real flavor like a rub. You can see from the pictures of what I’m talking about. All and all, the green beans were the best out of the whole meal. If you plan to visit the restaurant, call ahead to find out what days they are smoking the pork and go that day, I’m sure the flavor will be better than days of old BBQ. I gave them two stars for the green beans, the rest I would...
