Stayed at this hotel July 30th. I had a reservation for 7/29/25-7/30/25. Tried looking up a phone number to call them about shuttle service and it took a while as the reservations I made were under the name Clarion Hotel. I finally found a number on Trivago and asked for clarity about my reservation to find it is not a Clarion but a Red Lion. That was a bit frustrating that the Clarion name is floating out there without indication of a name change.
I get into Charlotte in the evening, my flight landed at 11:40pm. I called about a shuttle and was quickly cut off to say look for a white van with the name Red Lion on the side. I waited outside for a long time under the Hotel Shuttle bus at Zone 1. Did not see such van. It was almost 1 a.m. in the morning that I finally caved and got a taxi. The drive to the hotel took a bit, it was located in an area that was not very well lit until driving up to the hotel with bright lights. When the taxi driver arrived two more taxi's showed up and I recognized them from the airport as they expressed their frustration about the shuttle, the shuttle shows up behind us and it was a white van but it was decorated with several hotel names on it including the Red Lion as advertised but it was not a large advertisement on the door of the van, it can be easily missed as it is not the only hotel decal on the vehicle.
One lady was at the counter with one security guard who looked like he was on a break. She was polite and found my reservation. I get to room 1107 just shy of the lobby and it was boiling hot, the air in the room was not working, I turned the air down and tried to give it a bit to see if the temperature would change after a while it did not. I tried looking for someone in the lobby to see about a different room but was unable to find anyone as there was no button to buzz or anything to get their attention. I was exhausted as I had to return to the airport in a couple of hours so I took a cool shower and made the most of it. The bed was comfortable the room had some character with dents in the wall, some paint pulled and a hole in the carpet. The bathroom is large, The shower temperature was comfortable. Using the bathroom, the support bar next to the toilet had a crack around the end of the bar when I stood up to grab it, it bended pretty good from the wall that it was not mounted very well for support. There was no restaurants or anything near by so I found the vending machines that had a variety of snacks and drinks. Was it worth the price for the reservation? no, the price for the room was high, and I made the reservations through my mobile carrier with a discount that was still very high for the room condition, the air not working, and the light wear and tear of the room's interior. I would have asked for half the fee if it was not for the non-refundable label.
Would I stay here again? Probably after some time. I never swear off anything 100% but the staff is friendly, the bed is comfortable, and their vending machines were well stocked. I may have just been randomly picked to have such an experience but I will give it another shot...
Read moreWe stayed here because our flight was delayed and I had points to book the room. I made the decision to stay here from the higher reviews online. Imo the rating needs to be closer to a 2-2.5 rating, no higher.||I would first like to compliment the staff. I was able to call for a free shuttle from the airport around midnight. The driver, Hassan, was very courteous and drove us to and fro the airport. The man at the front desk was very polite and helpful. There also appeared to be a security service patrolling the property which didn't appear to be that busy. I didn't see anything shady going on or notice any partying out of the rooms so that's a plus.||The property is very large and checkin for ramada is the same desk as Clarion. There is a large banquet hall between hotels so you can get lost if not careful. This property is reminiscent of large hotel convention centers from the 80s. However, this place either needs to have millions spent on remodeling, or torn down and start over. We did notice a massage parlor on-site near the front desk in the maze between buildings. Not sure what that is all about but certainly makes one wonder. ||Our room was barely passable for a 2 star property. The bedding and bathroom were very clean. The rest of the room could use some work. As far as any pest problems in the room, i didnt do a thorough inspection but it was definitely dusty behind the bed. ||Many rooms between our walk appeared to be under renovation. The banquet hall had a faint odor but unsurprising for a property of this size and age. There was large pool outside that looked like it hadn't been cleaned in awhile but not totally abandoned. I did see a housecat near the pool, perhaps they patrol the grounds as well. Overall the place has some potential but would likely need millions in upgrades to compete with newer hotels. ||If I was in a jam with flights and packed lightly I would probably stay there again if the price was right due to the shuttle access and overall cost. Hopefully the ownership will make improvements to the property...
Read moreI flew in Staunton VA to Charlotte, NC for a Marilyn Manson Concert. The show was GREAT by the way.
I went online and did a Google search of an affordable hotel that was within distance of the venue I was attending. I also wanted a hotel that has places within walking distance to get something to eat, and even something like a convenience store nearby. The Red Lion has all of that.
After landing in Charlotte, I called the hotel to inform them that I have a reservation, and could they please send the Shuttle Service to me. I was told to where to wait, and within 15 minutes the shuttle services arrived.
Checking in was a breeze. Initial, then my signature and I was given my room key. This hotel is huge, and is way different from any hotels that I have been in. Many rooms, with many guest... The PGA was in town, and the parking lot was sort of full. But the only time I saw it even heard any guest, was when I was around the front desk. Other than that, while in my room, the soundproofing is excellent. I didn't hear anyone in the hallways outside of my door.
Though there isn't any room service, in the restaurant you can get your orders to go. I did order outside food, and then realized there wasn't a microwave in my room. I wonder why I didn't notice that from the beginning. I guess the atmosphere of this hotel didn't allow me to notice there wasn't one in my room. There was a small refrigerator though.
There is a business center, a work out room, and a swimming pool. I forgot to bring something to swim in, so I didn't go and look at the pool.
The staff...top notch. I didn't catch the woman's name who checked me in..and also looked like she was ALWAYS THERE, at no matter what time I walked by the front desk. It's HER hotel, and she runs a tight ship.
I was surprised when I checked out. I had some money coming back to me. Bonus!!
I read a book a while back by Jacob Tomsky called "Heads in Beds". Now I know what was meant about this book and this industry.
The Red Lion is going to be my Hotel whenever I'm in Charlotte, NC...which...
