This is honestly so unfortunate for me to have to write. I've been craving authentic Mexican food uptown for 8 years. It failed me miserably. Mexican is one of, if not my favorite cuisine. I've never written a review, but due to such disappointment I couldn't help myself on this one.
I've been two times... The first after opening and a revisit hopeful of an improvement over time.
1st experience: Okay service... I got the burrito with grilled chicken and the chicken tasted like it was flavored with bad packaged taco seasoning. Couldn't finish it.
My hopeful 2nd experience: Terrible service. It took 10 minutes for server to visit our table. The server was either incompetent or high. Which wouldn't surprise me since he came out of the back and straight to our table after the long wait. At least someone could have visited and offered drinks. Then he proceeded to bring out the wrong drinks and sauces. I could go on. Now to the food... Had the enchilada meal. The worst Mexican dish I think I've ever had. It was cold, bland, and the mole tasted like some form of mocha (hard to explain that one, but not your typical mole). I went with 3 people and everyone thought it was so awful they didn't finish their meal. I think I stomached two bites. What's up with the cubed carrots and peas in the rice. I'm assuming it's frozen rice. Either way, it's a first for me. I'll also add that the sour cream is awful. It's apparently handmade and takes on some form of sour cream meets ranch dressing. I'm not sure if it's some experiment with authenticity, but it isn't tasty. Why can't I get a normal side of sour cream with my chips or my meal like every other authentic Mexican restaurant I've been to. At least give me the option.
The good: The salsa trio is fantastic and the atmosphere is on point. It's pricey for authentic Mexican, but the location offsets the pricing.
I grew up eating authentic Mexican food. Sometimes 3-4 times a week. I've been to numerous restaurants in and around Charlotte. The best are typically a littler further out. I believe I've had food at you sister restaurant (I think you have one, but correct me if I'm wrong) and it's solid. I'm not sure what happened here. I can't believe how busy it stays. Kudos on that. I wish I could be one of those regular patrons.
I don't intend in any way for my review to sound malicious, but my experience had to be shared.
I'm still hopeful of...

Hi Manny, I hope you are the manager or owner. You asked for me to be real, here is the honest truth in hopes that you improve your restaurant, after all that is what criticismis for, to become better. We were a party of 4. At the time we arrived and left a total of 3 tables occupied in your place on that Sunday afternoon. Service was very slow for a total of 12 in your facility.
My daughter and I both had tacos. Pastor, Carnita and Fish and Shrimp tacos. ALLLL were cold and were suppose to be hot. We started with the most BASIC tacos to see how you flavor things. Besides being cold, I wanted to like the pastor because it is my favorite but it was cold. The carnita tasted like BBQ and not Spanish carnitas. The flavors of the shrimp and fish tacos could have been more enjoyable if they were hot. Again, this is the service, there is NO EXCUSE for cold food that should come out hot. My friend who is authentic Mexican, born in Mexico had a Cuban sandwich at the suggestion of the waitor and he could not finish it because it was not to his liking. The jamaica juice was ulta sweet and upon refill was given sangria by accident. His mom makes this juice every day, he had to ask for a glass of water to cut the sweetness.
I had no clue my husband wrote a review but already read it so I will spare you.
Like I said, there were only 3 tables with parties of 4 max at the tables...12 people and we couldn't get hot food? The service could have been better, let's be real about that. If you read any of my other reviews, I keep it real. If it's good, I praise. But if it is not, I'll let you know exactly why. This may be a tex mex place but I would rather spend my money at Superica where they know how to manage and serve to feed a crowd with good...
Read moreThis was one of the worst experiences. My friend and I split three chicken birria tacos with rice and street corn. Originally, we asked if it was possible to just get the tacos but we were informed the sides were not optional which was fine. We ate the tacos first and they were great. However, we then moved on to the corn and as my friend took exactly two bites of corn, on her second bite, a long strand of hair was hanging from her mouth. We let the waiter know who then left abruptly, came back, said he let a manager know and said he could only take $1 off the meal. After we informed him we didn’t feel that was reasonable he then brought the alleged manager and another person to the table. At this point there are three people around our table examining the corn and telling us how everyone wears hats and my friend had informed him that she understood that, but there was still a hair in her food with those precautions. The “manager” then told her that she shouldn’t have waited until the end to say anything when the only thing ate were three tacos. The rice was still fully there as well as a cob with two bites taken out. As stated beforehand, the tacos were eaten first. Once she saw the hair wrapped around the corn hanging from her mouth, we stopped eating. If he was the manager, because it was never disclosed who was who, he was very condescending and lacked compassion as a whole. He essentially made it seem like we just wanted to eat everything and receive a free meal which was never the case considering 1/3 of the meal was eaten. He proceeded to comp only $2 of the $18 meal. After taxes, we only paid .60 less than what we normally would’ve paid. The customer service from whoever this was set the tone as whole and i would never return nor recommend anyone else. What good is the food if you’re treated like you are...
