Good location, walkable to local Walgreens, pizza shop, and other places to eat. I walked to the black museum and also to get my nails done. I did take an uber to Whole Foods. So if you want a walkable locale this is it good enough while not sacrificing quality of rooms and service. Don't expect to step out into any nightlife or quaint little shopping boutiques like you may find in Charleston's downtown. This is business district so lots of food spots.
When I checked in I didnt like the book room I was given it was too low floor and dark. Guest services (Emily, Emma?) and the woman who took the shift over when she left made sure I got a room I was happy with. I waited comfortably and gratefully at Mico's and got a higher floor, better view. It meant alot because I was staying alot of nights. It started my stay on a good start.
Mico was good. Good bartenders. I didnt get everyone's names. But there is a hispanic woman and a guy who worked together on Wednesday or Thurs during the day and they are memorable. The guy welcomed me with a big smile and good service. I was staying a week. And I felt welcomed. There is a woman named Deborah who is also very nice, professional and consistent.
Consistent service across the board from the front desk to guest services during the day. Something happens after the shift change w guest services and things may not be as smooth or fluid. Felt too casual, or too hard to get requests done after 7pm. Not sure. I just tried to get everything I needed before 5pm. Mico has an Argentinian menu, not crazy about it, but the fries are good, and the sticky toffee cake, but nothing on the menu made me crave. Drinks are topnotch. Really inspired. I wish who did the drinks menu also did the food menu. There are so many options to pull from the Carolinas, why Argentinian? I didnt see the connection.
It's a busy hotel. I heard doors open and closing at 2-3am in the morning. I visited the rooftop bar and it has lovely views. I just didnt expect to do the work to get into a bar as a guest. I had to go back to the downstairs lobby, sign in, give my info, wait, etc. Like a club? It was odd. I didn't feel like it was special. I would have if they made it easier for the guests - no lines, use room key or code, and get in. It felt contrived.
I met the most interesting people at this hotel. It also felt Matrix-y. Like where am I?! So cool. Folks from all backgrounds. Lots of couples, but I couldn't help to feel that they were missing out. The hotel is great if you are alone because the bar/restaurant is accommodating and you get to meet more people.
The shower was the best, good water pressure all around, no plumbing issues. Walls are thin, but not crazy. I slept well. There is a refrigerator looks tiny, but it can hold a week's worth of food easily and leftovers.
I recc this hotel to solo travelers. Be weary of asking stuff at night. The hotel also gets busy at night with people from the street wanting to go to the rooftop bar. But I saw security around and the hotel seems on top of who is there, and keeping the groups moving. The hotel lobby is small so it can prob look busier than it is.
Oh, and great, friendly Starbucks. There is a lovely Asian lady there who writes these inspiring messages on the cups. It gives it a personal touch. All in all, I would def go back...
Read moreEclectic, upscale rooms but poor soundproofing and obnoxious party-goers
Room / Facilities: We stayed in a double-queen room (#513). The room featured high-end finishings in the dark bohemian (similar to Nadia Martini's) style - including extremely comfortable beds with high-thread count sheets, swivel armchair, and black marble-clad bathroom. The bathroom featured a walk-in shower but the toilet area smelled of rank sewage. Despite the luxurious furniture, the room had little to no sound deadening - we could hear cars roaring through the street below and the elevator every time it had stopped at our floor.
The hotel does include an executive lounge, exercise room, spa, rooftop bar, house car (BMW X7), and restaurant (Mico). The exec lounge is spacious but pretty bare bones - there is a self-serve coffee machine, bags of chips, granola bars, and jars of gummy bears and Hershey chocolates. The lounge is not attended and items are not consistently stocked. The front desk mentioned the lounge would feature pastries for breakfast but alas they were nowhere to be found at 8a and the rest of the morning! We ended up having the salmon tartin, which was excellent, at the Mico.
There aren't many common areas but we had the misfortune to encounter drunk party groups going to-and-from the rooftop bar. One of these groups even blocked off and prevented us from accessing the elevator once.
Service: Lydia offered an efficient check-in, proactively offering late checkout (which is appreciated) and explaining the hotel's facilities and benefits. We later went downstairs and conveyed (to a different front-desk agent) constantly hearing cars revving engines and drag racing through the streets. Unfortunately, this fell upon deaf ears. I would've understood if they had said the hotel had been fully booked (not sure if it was?) but also would've really appreciated even a little sympathy.
Value: I've seen large fluctuations in the room pricing from $250/night to ~$1000/night. Despite the deluxe furnishings, the Grand Bohemian Hotel Charlotte failed to fulfill the most basic hotel requirement, to deliver a relaxing space to sleep. I wouldn't look to stay here again unless they offered guaranteed high-floor rooms and/or rooms with soundproofing on the windows.
Location: The Grand Bohemian is conveniently located downtown Charlotte. There are a multitude of office, museums, and restaurants within walking distance. While we definitely expected the typical sounds from a city downtown, we didn't anticipate a seemingly car meet drag racing through the streets with loud-revving engines even to the wee hours of...
Read moreWe started working with Haley the summer of 2020 when we had to change our wedding venue after we were not able to have our wedding as planned. The Grand Bohemian had not even opened yet in Charlotte and we were only able to see a portion of the hotel as construction was finishing. Haley was an absolute pleasure to meet and was so easy to work with to book our rescheduled wedding date. When it seemed COVID would still be an issue for our wedding, Haley was so understanding and willing to work with us to reschedule our wedding for a third time. Throughout the planning process, Haley was quick at responding to my emails and amazing to work with as we navigated the uncertainties of planning a wedding during COVID. A few months before our wedding, we started working with Sydney and Celeste who were also great to work with. We met with the team several times to do our tasting, show our parents the venue, and meet with our day-of coordinator. They were very flexible to meet with us and meet our schedules. The weekend of the wedding they were also present to ensure our wedding ran smoothly. Haley/Sydney/Celeste were absolutely amazing to work with and truly made our day the most amazing day ever.
In terms of the space, it was absolutely perfect. Since most of our guests were traveling from out of town, it was so convenient to have our wedding where most of our guests could stay and travel to from the airport. The rooms were beautiful and my suite was perfect to get ready in with my mothers and bridesmaids. The rooftop terrace is where we did a majority of our photos and having the city skyline and the murals made for beautiful photos. The ceremony was also on the rooftop terrace which was breathtaking. The tent was also great for keeping out the sun and wind the day of. Our guests only had to travel to another floor for the cocktail hour and reception which was very easy. The space was also gorgeous with artwork all around for our guests to look at and required minimal additional decor from us. The ballroom is also extremely elegant which made it very easy on us as we only really needed to bring centerpieces to complete the look. The chandeliers are stunning; we had different color lighting for our dinner and dancing; the room was very spacious for our guests but also did not look bare; the dance floor was in a perfect spot, and the staff set up the tables to look great. The food was also fantastic. The cake was made by the pastry chef and we gave a few ideas of what we were looking for and it looked absolutely stunning. Overall we couldn’t have asked for a better day or team...
