I'm very disheartened to write a review for Roots that is not 5 stars. I have been coming here frequently (sometimes every week day or twice a day) for almost a year. At first, I loved it. The service was friendly my food always came out promptly and yummy. Over the past maybe 2 months, I have many complaints. Here's just one: the last visit to Roots I had I asked for one side of bacon. My bacon was raw when I opened it at my office across the street after I waited over 20 minutes for one side of bacon. When I called, the woman on the phone was very rude and unprofessional. I came back and it was promptly taken care of by a woman I believe to be the owner. Sad the employees showed little interest in helping before she was present. Today was very upsetting. I called to place a to-go order for my office and the phones were dead (weird thing that happens periodically to their phones). I then walk over and order, they keep changing the menu and the website isn't updated so they didn't have two of the orders. That's fine, I substitute it. I made my order and asked when I should expect it. The employee told me 10 minutes. I notice it's been about 20. I go up to the counter and stand and wait. I get very dismissive service with no update. Someone asked my name and went to the kitchen and gave no update or anything upon return, so off putting. I ended up waiting around 30 minutes, I don't mind so much but some quick acknowledgement would have been nice and professional. Just overall bad service recently. Employees also just look like they're not happy to be there. As I'm writing this review I realize I just took a bite of raw bacon in my chicken avocado wrap. That's disgusting. My coworker showed me her BELT sandwich and there's no sauce on it. Roots used to be my favorite and I've taken a lot of people there and recommended it to many as well. Sad to see it getting bad so quickly, hope it gets back on track one day and I don't get food poisoning. Only giving better than a one star because it used...
Read moreAll I can say is the lady cleaning off the tables made me NEVER want to return again. I was told by one waitress that you had to order then you could sit down at table. Okay....cool! My friend and me ordered...found a table, sat down. Not a problem. Then I noticed another table being cleaned off.....so I asked my friend to move to this other table with me. As I was about to sit down....the waitress that cleaned the table told me we couldn't sit there. The reason she said we couldn't sit there is because the cashier taking the orders was about to sit people there...! Wow! She lied to me in my face! She balantly lied to me in my face!!!! If the 1st waitress said you order first then sit down....why did the waitress cleaning table say something totally different? She lied! There was even a sign that said you order 1st then find table. It said nothing about cashier finding a table for us. Wow! Another table overheard the waitress cleaning the table say this to us and knew the waitress was lying 🤥! This is not the type of business establishment I will ever go back too!
All I can say is....if you lie to me to my face....you truly don't want me to come back!
Your TEAM knew exactly what they did. The second waitress lied. Plan and simple. The team should be on the same page. Does that make sense? Your establishment has the business it wants...and it's not me. The couple that overheard the waitress lie...said they will not be back either.
It disheartening that I experienced this...and I'm being blamed for your employee...
Read moreVery nice neighborhood cafe.
The coffee is reasonably priced and taste great. My wife ordered a latte and enjoyed it so much she grabbed another to take home.
The breakfast sandwiches taste great but are a little overpriced. We ordered turkey sausage, egg, and cheese croissant and it was $9.50 each. Had we had bacon (we don't eat pork) our sandwiches would have been $5.65. The avocado toast was pretty good however it was soggy and may have had a bit too much butter. It wasn't bad, but yet again. It was $10. All in all we paid about $47 for 2 croissant sandwiches, avocado toast, an orange juice, and 2 coffees. When visiting here you are obviously paying for the location. Our order probably should. Have been $30 tops.
The service was really good. They take your order when you arrive and you seat yourself. However, a waitress will bring out your food and drinks and check in on you occasionally. Our waitress was friendly and did a good job of making sure we were happy.
The dining area is cozy with a few high top tables. There are live plants and overall really relaxed vibe. The downfall is the space can fill up very quickly. If 5 or 6 orders come in back to back the place will fill up very quickly. When we visited it was rainy but they do have quite a bit of outdoor seating. They also provide free WiFi.
The parking is horrible! Street parking seems to be the best option. There is a parking deck across the street but I'm not sure if that deck is...
