The worst Wine Bar we ever visited. Where to start? Ok, the wine selection was weak at best. The names were the same as ones you could find at Harris Teeter (BTW, the "wilder" the name or label on the bottle, the worse the quality of wine). The variety was weak with only 1 Shiraz on the menu (for those who don't know, Shiraz is one of the most numerous types of wines available) and no selections from Australia or New Zealand, some of the premier vintners in the Southern Hemisphere. The wines we ordered were bad to say the least. I got a Montepulciano and she got a Shiraz. And, there should be a law against serving beer or liquor drinks in a WINE bar. That is a key indicator that the owners are not serious about being a Wine bar.
Now, the food: In short, previous posters nailed it with their comments about small portions and high prices. We paid $10 for the "wild mushroom bruschetta" which consisted of 4 small pieces of bread covered in very SMELLY mushrooms with no sauce or spices to add flavor. I swear when they brought the plate, I thought someone who forgot to wash had sat down close by. To add insult to injury, my girlfriend asked for soda water and they actually charged her for it. We've both worked in the Service industry and have never been to a place that charges for soda water!
Finally, the Service.... mediocre at best. The bartender made no recommendations on wines or food pairings and stopped by to check on us sporadically. In her defense, she may have been scared off by the look on my face when the mushroom "bruschetta" arrived.
To summarize, we beg you: PLEASE DON"T WASTE YOUR TIME going to this place, especially if you've been to real wine bars in cities like Atlanta, Orlando, Miami, D.C., etc. You can get a better glass of wine at Vivace or George's Brasserie and a better overall experience just about...
Read moreI was a routine customer UNTIL tonight. Brought a handful of my girlfriends for a Wednesday night wine outing thinking it would be a stress free gathering to introduce them to a Charlotte staple… not even close.
After 20 minutes of waiting the staff came and retrieved the orders, a few flights of wine and some small plates. The food was mediocre (ordered flatbread, hummus, cheese spread, salad etc). Later I ordered my own flight of wine to then have the waiter tell me 15 minutes later that they no longer could provide flights. I then replied “how long is the wait” assuming they just were behind on washing dishes… I was then denied a flight and told for the rest of the evening no one could order a flight (this was at 7:30 pm) so ordered a single glass of wine to suffice.
Note: flights come with 3 tastings and a full glass of your favorite from the flight & a small plate.
Tip here: BE PROBLEM SOLVERS, why could I not be severed my tasting wines in 3 separate standard wine glasses or even plastic cups for that matter??
After 15 minutes of the conversation a new table was seated and provided 2 flights of wine directly after I was told they would be unavailable for the remainder of the night.
To add to it, when asking for a box for our food it took an additional 20 minutes and we were in need of another server to fulfil our needs.
Ended up just grabbing our check and leaving.
All to say, I was very disappointed in this evening and am hoping management reaching out.
Sad to see my local staple...
Read moreA couple weeks ago my husband and I finished our night here to start off his birthday weekend. We have been here before. The staff is always friendly, female, and attentive. However, the owner is always present and watching his staff's every move. Has anyone here ever seen a male bartender/server? We always sit at the bar and get front row seats of his unprofessional behavior. We sometimes come on Thursdays for their wine and app deal. One time we came and watched the owner belittle a server for not pushing a certain wine. But this night was different and I will never go here again. The owner is always catering to females at his side during business hours....whether personal or not. He claims from his response to a Facebook post that he is conducting business relations. In my opinion, if you are trying to plan a party/tasting, do it during off hours when times are not busy. That being said, while my husband and I were at the bar one night, a girl walked in and the owner embraced her. While he was talking to her, one of his female bartenders walked up and asked if the girl wanted water. This guy threw his hand in the air and snapped at her for interrupting him. I literally thought he was going to hit her. I was so disgusted and started crying, made my husband close the tab as I left. This is completely unacceptable. And if you would like me to post his response to the Facebook post please...
