The moment I checked in to checking out was very confusing. The lobby is on the second floor and not visible from the street. I drove around looking for the front entrance to park and unload but there isn’t one. It’s a side entrance without prior info. I had to park get out walk up a flight to check in, then walk back down get back in car to then drive around block to a closed gate. I had to call the hotel again and wait for gate to open to then unload and walk in. No luggage carts for assistance. It was very inconvenient and not welcoming. The design of not having a carport and separate entrance to unload and easily access to front lobby want there. The need for a key to have the elevator activated every time to go up past third floor was annoying. My hands were full and had to put down every time. While the shower products were nice, where they are is not convenient and not sure how they can be cleaned where they are. They should be hung under the shower so they can be rinsed off. The drain is modern long metal solid grate. It will collect hair and other debris and lifting it isn’t accessible. Who knows what’s growing under there. There is a master light switch that isn’t labeled and if accidentally pressed none light switches will work which in the pitch dark is scary. The phone is the skinniest phone and hard to see. The door is super heavy and doesn’t have a latch to keep it ajar so when loading bags from hallway the door will slam shut...
Read moreWe were recommended this hotel by a few friends that live in Charlotte. It is the only hotel in this part of Charlotte and the price was probably higher than it should have been given that. However, it definitely did not disappoint. This location is only about 3 years old but it could have opened yesterday. the ceilings are tall and the decor is well selected.
The only issue that we had during our stay was the first room keys we were given opened a room where a guest was already staying (and currently asleep). This is one of the cardinal sins of the hotel world in my book. I don't like the thought of a hotel staff member giving someone keys to my room when I am still inside. They did rectify this by giving us a bigger room and apologizing quite a bit. I was encouraged to see that they didn't shrug this off and recognized that it was a big error.
The rest of our stay was wonderful. There was a lot of street noise here, but that is to be expected in this area. The location of this place easily outweighs the annoyance of dealing with loud cars in the evening.
I would recommend this place to anyone. It let us feel as though we were living in South End for the weekend! It was close to both the light rail stop and many restaurant and bars in the area. I cannot imagine that this will remain the only hotel in the area for long, but it certainly was a great place to stay. We easily parked on the street and did not need our car for the...
Read moreMy wife and I recently overnighted at this Holiday Inn Express location following the George Strait concert at the Bank of America Stadium. The hotel was excellent.
Parking was easy. Although we had to wait to get in, the valets were efficient and friendly. We were unloaded and checked in quickly despite the many concert attendees arriving at the hotel at the same time.
The room was clean and new. Furniture was smartly designed with shelving for easy traveler access to suitcases and a comfortable chaise lounge near the window. The bathroom featured a switch with a built-in nightlight. The thermostat appeared new and the climate control had no problems keeping the room comfortable.
After a late arrival back at the hotel following the concert, we came in the lobby where a security guard was on duty. This, along with access controlled elevators, should make even the most nervous traveler feel at ease.
After an excellent night sleep in the comfortable bed, the next morning my wife and I enjoyed a delicious breakfast. The seating area was packed with concert goers but the food was plentiful and staff did an excellent job keeping the items stocked up. There was a selection of proteins, biscuits & gravy, pancakes from the automated pancake maker, and the HIE signature cinnamon rolls.
All in all, this was an excellent stay. We will gladly stay here again if attending a show or...
