Smallcakes Ballantyne — Restaurant in Charlotte

My husband ordered half a dozen gluten free cupcakes with strawberry icing, strawberry drizzle, and strawberries on top for my birthday to surprise me...and they were possibly the BEST gluten free cupcakes I've EVER had! We used to only go to The Southern Olive, but for the past year their baked goods have all been super dry and just not good at all. I'm only adding that part because we just saw the review that somebody said the Southern Olive was better. I don't know if that person works there or what, but fun our experience, cannot be possible. I'm telling you, from people who used to be very loyal customers there and have gone multiple times over the past year and bought a TON of items trying to patronize them and support a local business...and tried to give them chance after chance to fix the issues that they have been having... Their baked goods, for the most part, are no longer tasty or quality. Especially the cupcakes. Which are now extremely dry and extremely dense and just don't have much flavor. And that is not a one-off, this has been a problem that has been ongoing for more than a year. The cupcakes that my husband got me from Smallcakes were not even a comparison to The Southern Olive. Literally blew ALL the competition away and SO extremely delicious and MOIST! My family who does not even eat gluten free or like gluten-free food LOVED them after trying them and said that they tasted better than even regular cupcakes and that you could not tell! Haha! This will definitely now be our go-to for gluten-free cupcakes! Thank you so much for doing a custom order so quickly for him. It blessed me so much to have gluten-free strawberry cupcakes on my birthday... And to have them be so delicious was just icing on top! Also, the super sweet touch that you added of writing happy birthday in the box lid just made my day! Thank you again and we pray that your business thrives! We are all about supporting businesses that are excellent at what they do and letting...

This is hands down my FAVORITE bakery...but I had to retrack 2 stars. I understand it was close to closing time. But still no reason for this. I go in after a rough day...Needed a lil sweetness to pick me up and decidedly on my fav a smashcake. Chocolate cake with pink frosting. I asked for pumpkin cheese cake and biscott cookie icecream. I got one scoop of ice cream of the cookie. I looked and noticed right away, A: It was only 1 flavor of ice cream and it was ONLY ONE SCOOP. I asked her..."Thats 2 scoops?" The lady replied, "Yes". I didn't feel like arguing. I just wanted to go home. I paid the 13$ for 1 scoop of icecream and a cupcake.😪 I was going to go back the next day and hopefully speak with the owner but never got a chance too. Because this was a couple days ago, I figured nothing would be done about it. Instead, sadly, I decieded I just leave a review. Thanks for reading. Hopefully this won't happen again. I ordered a simple half a dozen cupcakes to be ready for pickup on Friday May 26th at 7pm and they were not ready. The person said they could make them “right now” I’m not sure what the process is but I knew I wanted them to be good so I didn’t want her to rush. I told her we could reschedule for the morning (May 27th) I called them to inform them I was on my way and the person on the phone had no idea what I was talking about. She said she would make them “right now” if it weren’t cause I needed these cupcakes I probably would’ve cancelled this order. Upon receiving my order they didn’t follow the instructions to give us two peanut butter cupcakes. I like this company and I have ordered from them in the past and I’ve gotten way better customer service and great quality cupcakes. However, I will NOT be ordering from this location again. I’m grateful it was a small order this time (it still doesn’t make it ok) I’m very disappointed at the level of customer...
