I love Sun’s ever since they started at the City Kitch. I took a shot in the dark years ago for pickup, and I have never stopped eating as a regular since. I’m so glad there is a store front, and their menu has even expanded. I was there for their soft opening. I always go back and bring my friends and family and tell them that this is the spot. This business is a true gem of Charlotte and is peak Chinese cuisine for the price here.
If you dine in, you do order from the kiosk (or table QR code), and you can sit down at any available table. They will bring the food to you. The atmosphere is great. It is clean, modern with a touch of culture (paintings, door structure for the kitchen, trinkets and figures on the shelf, etc). They even have an open kitchen concept where you can see them make the food from scratch. I recommend going a little after lunch time 1-2PM, or after the re-open 4-6PM if you want a more quiet meal. As any other business, it will be busy on weekends, so seating may be limited.
I have not had not one bad dish. Everything is super delicious, and I’ve tried almost every food item. Even their in house teas are great, I love the watermelon jasmine tea.
Highly favorable dishes; lamb or beef skewers, dumplings flight, braised beef noodle soup, the bread and beef soup, any the egg tarts!
Do not miss out on this traditional Chinese dining. This is not your standard Chinese restaurant that caters to the American palate. This is Chinese cuisine made with love and deep rooted culture/tradition/flavors. I look forward to...
Read moreSun’s Kitchen will definitely become one of our regular meals. The dumplings tasted homemade, with a nice chew to the wrappers and a very flavorful, moist pork filling. Although the wrappers may be thicker than some people are used to, for me, they reminded me exactly how my grandma makes them. The texture and thickness were consistent throughout all 15 dumplings and lets you have the bite of the dough, while still being appropriate for the amount of filling. The lamb was full of that wonderful cumin and peppercorn taste, and while ordered mild, still had plenty of flavor without the added spice. Next time, I’m ordering it spicy though. The ma la wontons were great, with nice thin wrappers and spicy ma la oil. Even though we ordered them authentically spicy, do not shy away from them if you think you can’t handle REALLY spicy food. They are worth it! The ma la oil had a very traditional, slow building and numbing spice with lots of cumin. It’s got more peppercorn and cumin complexity than typical superficially spicy food which is usually heavy hitting spice on the front end and only serves to burn your tongue.
After eating our first meal, we read about the origins of Sun’s Kitchen. Between their excellent homemade food, great flavors, and design around online and electronic ordering, it’s no wonder this business survived the pandemic. Hopefully, Sun’s Kitchen will continue to thrive and serve to make us fat for...
Read moreThe manager was awesome guy, the baldone he was very attentive, to what table needed but walking into this spot after the rain, my friend and I didn’t expect much,we just picked it because it was close to work. But the second the food hit the table, I felt like I was thrown straight into a real-life episode of Food Wars. Every single bite was so delicious it almost felt dangerous, like my clothes were about to explode right off me from pure flavor overload. I had skewers of lamb, beef, potato, tofu, and squid, and each one hit differently but with the same “wow” factor. The beef sauce with rice was rich and comforting, the dessert with condensed milk and fried dough was indulgent in the best way, and the mango lime drink was so refreshing it could cure any bad day.
What made the experience even better was how versatile the menu felt. I went with mostly non-spicy items while my friend chose the spicier versions, and we both ended up with the same wide-eyed, can’t-stop-smiling reaction. It’s the kind of food that makes you laugh in disbelief because it’s just that good. This isn’t just a restaurant it’s an experience of the street food . I’d recommend it for a quick lunch, a nice dinner, or even a first date spot that’s guaranteed to impress. I’m already planning to bring my friends and coworkers back, because once you’ve been “laced” with flavors like this, there’s no going back, felt like I was on...
