We have been to tap and vine in Indian Trail before and found this place to be good. We were trying to figure out where to go for dinner last night and we saw an ad on social media for Tap and Vine Ballantyne with live country music on Wednesday night. So we decided to try it out. We were seated immediately by a polite hostess, but we noticed no live music and it just never happened. Not sure why? On the table tents it stated live music and beer and bourbon specials. The server showed up and we asked about the beer specials and she said there are no specials, we then pointed to the table tent. She then left to find out what the specials were, sadly there was one beer special, bud light for $3.50. not a big beer special to say the least. so i guess she was right when she said no beer specials. The server seemed extremely unprepared and not trained at all. She knew nothing about the drink menu and when i ordered a Yuengling, she asked me what is that, she thought it was a wine. my wife order a glass of red wine and server sated that this wine is only sold by the bottle, we had to point out that the menu clearly had a price per glass and a price per bottle option. asked for our food order, we had to ask where were our drinks. The drink order took way too long to for a beer, a glass of wine, and water. Anyway, we finally got our drinks and asked for a few minutes to order food as we were chatting. Then it was time to order food the server seemed clueless on the menu items. asked if there were any food specials and she said no, ironically she told us the only special was the beer special that 15 minutes ago we told her about. When we walked into the restaurant there was a full chalk bard full of food specials unbeknown to the server. My wife left the table to go take a photo of the specials for us to look at. We ordered and she asked if i need another beer, i said yes and it never came. When the food finally arrived she asked again if i needed another beer, and i stated i never got the 2nd one i ordered, she said she didn't hear me even thought she acknowledged my request. Finally, got my 2nd beer. The food came and all three of us found the food to be mediocre at best, and our friend didn't even eat half of her dish. My entree was prime rib sandwich and it was not good as the meat was scarce and fatty and the fries were cold. My wife's soup was warm at best and she said it was way too salty. Overall a bad experience, food was not good, server needed better training with better knowledge of the menu and specials, and management was no where to found to discuss, nor did any management come to table to ask how everything was. We had wished we picked a different restaurant for dinner. We will not likely return to Tap and Vine Ballantyne. They need to do...
Read moreWHAT HAPPENED TO STEPS OF SERVICE AND RESTARAUNT MANAGEMENT??! This was a few weeks ago now. Ok, As a Somm and in the hospitality game nationally and internationally for over 20 yrs, I was really upset at what we had happen here to celebrate my cousins birthday (Party of 12). Usually, I will chock it up to a bad experience or food and not go back b/c I know how tough the industry is, but I have to say something.
First, sat at the bar with my lady and a solid 15-17 min passed (I counted) before we were even acknowledged. Then served mediocre negronis at best. The bartender did not ask me what gin I wanted and when i looked at the bill she charged me for the high end brand, sneakly. Our party sat down..... more drinks... server brought wrong ones...ordered two bottles of wine...brought to the table with foils removed but wrong bottles after specifically pointing to the server (Who was very young and he was really trying but you can tell he never received proper training)...AND BEST PART... when the wine came out we asked for 5 glasses and he only brought 1..yes ONE wine glass, saying the bar doesnt have anymore...IT IS A WINE BAR FOR GODS SAKE!!....maybe he thought we should drink it from the bottle...
Food....server missed an appetizer...ordered that bread charc board.....we got cold sliced baguette with a plastic ramekin of grape Welchers jelly and half frozen butter. Dinner time and nothing is cleared. Dirty plates and dirty empty glasses everywhere, no wonder why the bar doesnt have any. They start our entree course and bring out 1 dish...Again ONE DISH....it sat for literally 20minutes before the rest of the party starting getting the rest of the food. Wow. My friend didnt complain b/c he knew it would take longer to get the food back. Our food quality was probably around 5-6/10. Just ok. my gnocchi was not gnocchi. They were the size of slugs and slimy. My other guests said the same. This is definitely not fine dining food with the prices like they are charging. They pretend to be fine dining but are failing terribly. Manager never touched the table. Kids pretending they are waiters running around without a clue. 1 waitress was walking around chewing gum so loudly I felt like I was at a gas station diner.....but they still expect 20% gratuity of course. Our poor kid didnt have a clue on how to implement proper steps or wine service, but I dont blame him. It is a failure of management. We spent almost a grand....what a...
Read moreWe dined at Tap & Vine on March 23, 2024, total of 9 adults in your private room. I must say that it was not a pleasant experience. It took quite a long time before we had a server come to take our drink orders and to bring water. It was again a very long time before our drinks were served and we were asked if we wound like you order appetizers, once we placed that order it was a very long time once again before they were served. We had two orders of calamari and a second order of another appetizer. When the orders were received the young man helping serve them spilled one container of the cocktail sauce all over the table, his comment was oh I will take care of that, which he never did. It was on the table while we were trying to share our appetizers and I finally asked our server to please clean it up. The young man came back in and handed several cocktail napkins to one of the people in our party and said, here is some napkins so you can clean the sauce up and walked away. I could not believe the attitude, I took the napkins and proceeded to clean up the sauce and then of course the napkins were all pilled up on the table, the server returned and I asked her if she would please remove them and she did. We ordered another Martini and I asked if I could please have mine in a regular Martini glass and she informed me that she did not think they had anything more than the short glass which mine was served in, later one in our party ordered a Martini and it was served in the correct glass, go figure that. Two of our friends ordered Manhattans which were certainly not like what they were used to and when they questioned it they were told that is the way we make them. Now the food is finally served, everyone complained about the quality of the food, the temperature of the food and the length of time it had taken. We were seated before 6:30, it was 8:45 before we were leaving and it was a vote of 9 to O that we would not book our dinner there again. We do a monthly dinner every month with 9 to 10 people and we have dined at Tap & Vine in the past and never had such a disappointing experience. The sauce on the table that was spilled by the server and never cleaned up until we asked them to take care of it was totally inappropriate, and then to bring cocktail napkins and tell us they were so we could take care of it, really, we were not the one that spilled it in the...
