Chuy's is great. It is definitely not traditional Mexican cuisine but the more eclectic, and sometimes spicier, Tex-Mex. We had guacamole with our chips, salsa and ranch as an appetizer. The guac was very good and a good amount...and yeah I did say we had both salsa and ranch dressing with our chips. The salsa is on the spicy side so the ranch is a great contrast even if you don't get the guacamole.
We both got the "ChuyChanga" as our entrees. It was the most evenly fried, crunchy chimichanga I've ever had, and the chicken and vegetables in the filling were so delicious. With most entrees you have your choice of any of the signature sauces. They range from the not at all spicy tomatillo sauce up to the fairly spicy green hatch chili sauce. I chose the "Boom Boom" sauce. I don't recall what's in it but it was cheesy and spicy and excellent. My wife isn't much for spicy food so she opted for the rancho sauce, which she really enjoyed. I got the green chili rice while she went with the traditional Mexican rice. We both went with the churro beans rather than refried beans. It's more like a bean soup with the usual green chilies. We both loved them though it was a little spicy for my wife.
By the time we had gone through our chips and guacamole, we only managed to eat about half of our entrees and sides. It's a good bit of food. That's fine with us. We love having leftovers and getting another delicious meal out of it.
If you are interested in something kinda Mexican or kinda American Southwest, you absolutely cannot go wrong with Chuy's. The service is prompt and polite. The menu offers a lot of options. The prices are reasonable for the quality and quantity of the portions. This is the only location we've visited as it's the only one in Chattanooga, but if the other locations are like this one, definitely keep an eye...
Read moreFirst I want to say I love Chuy’s BUT tonight was one of the worst experiences. I had a really tough week and just wanted some chips and jalapeño dip and a mixed drink and just veg. So we walk in and meet the hostess, tell her two and she takes us to a 2 seat table. We then asked for a booth and she says none are clean. I said we would wait. During this time she communicates to no one that two customers are waiting to be seated. We wait and wait. Finally I asked her if she told anyone we were waiting and she said no but she knew. Unbelievable! We walked out. I got to our vehicle and chose to go back in. I asked her how was anyone to know we were waiting if she didn’t communicate? Undoubtedly she knew exactly what she was doing and doing out of spite. So I asked for a manager. He comes out frazzled looking. I explained the incident and she speaks up behind him and speaks for herself. I then told her I wasn’t speaking to her. The manager asked me to speak directly to him and I did. The entire time she stood behind the manager and shook her head and smirked. I informed the manager and again she spoke out. He FINALLY dismissed her which we should have talked away from her from the beginning. She goes to the back and then starts talking to other employees. I told the manager for reasons like that of total disrespect and disregard she needed to be sent home to make a point. He just stood there. I told him to keep his chips and walked out. I sat in my vehicle and she returns right to her hostess booth. Unbelievable!!! No wonder young kids have absolutely no respect when adults allow them to behave like they do and see no repercussions from their actions. Great...
Read moreEDITED 2 nd time Chuys is back in my good graces and 5 star rating! meat is good again and the guc is creamy again. I tell everyone to skip the subpar other mexican restaurants and go to Chuys because they are better than other places! Edited ..I love chuys because of the house made corn and flour shells. I usually get chicken fajitas and it’s always delicious. The chicken is not bits and pieces of frozen meat but a chicken breast that’s been grilled on an actual char grill and sliced for fajitas. It’s moist and flavorful. They use green and red peppers in their fajita vegetables and it makes all the difference. The guacamole is some of the best around. The refried beans are never too salty or runny. The salsa is fresh! Not from a can. So good! The boom boom sauce is cheesy and spicy; a combination I appreciate. One complaint.. I wish chuys would expand their menu again. I miss some of their old dishes. Edit review: Down from a five star to a two star. I still love And appreciate Chuys homemade shells, their creamy jalapeño sauce and their refried beans but their chicken fajita meat is a hit or miss anymore. Sometimes the meat has a weird, hard, low quality texture that’s inedible and hard chicken Obviously ruins the whole meAl. The lettuce was turning brown, the guacamole is no longer creamy but more in the watery side and the chips are more on the greasy side rather than light and crispy....
