Food Review of Ruby's Cajun Seafood Boil
I recently had an impromptu meal at Ruby's Cajun Seafood Boil, and it turned out to be quite an experience! I was in the mood for some fried fish and was lucky enough to find a cozy spot to sit alone.
After browsing the menu, I decided to go for a half pound of Dungeness crab and a flounder basket. The Dungeness crab arrived with a side of butter and garlic sauce, along with a potato and an ear of corn. While I appreciated the generous portion, I found the crab a bit dry, suggesting it may have been sitting a while before my order. The shell itself could have used a thorough cleaning, as I noticed some dirt that detracted from the overall enjoyment—especially when you want to savor every bit of that flavorful sauce.
The corn looked appealing, but unfortunately, it lacked sweetness and had a starchy flavor that didn’t quite hit the mark. I opted not to touch the potato since I was focused on the fries that came with the flounder basket. The basket itself was solid; the flounder was tasty but could have benefitted from an extra 4-5 minutes in the fryer for a crispier texture. The fries were hot and delicious—pretty standard but satisfying.
On the bright side, the service was outstanding. My waitress was attentive and made sure I had everything I needed, including refills on my drink.
Overall, my meal at Ruby's was acceptable, but I would approach the shellfish items with caution in the future given the cleanliness issues I encountered. If the Dungeness crab had been buried in that delicious garlic butter sauce, it might have masked some of the dryness, but the uncleaned shells were a definite downside. I would consider returning, but with a careful selection...
Read moreI popped in after shopping and wanted to try this restaurant. I ordered togo a whiting poboy, combo lo mein, hush puppies and a quart of their house sauce medium. Well, the poboy was good, however, it was dry. I asked the lady, while ordering, if they add mayo or something and she said the sandwich has a roumalade sauce. They didn't add anything but lettuce, tomato and fish. The bread had a weird smell, idk what it was. It was toasted a bit, so I'm assuming it came from the grill. Besides that smell the fish in the sandwich was pretty good. The lo mein was not good, literally no flavor, within the noodles. The ONLY thing that tasted like anything was the sausage, usually that's salty, but this sausage was not. The shrimp and chicken that was also part of the combo lo mein was flavorless. The hush puppies were hot, no bad, but a little dry. Last, the sauce. It's not very tasty and I ordered medium and it was not. It's mostly oil, but the taste is just not there. I may heat the sauce up and try again with some shrimp. Overall, the service was good. My bill was total $34 for food with a $5 tip, I paid $7.45 for the sauce. However, they really need to work on the food flavor or change the cook. I feel like i wasted my money, because it's goingin the trash. I...
Read moreIn the first 5 minutes of being seated, we had been asked if we were ready to order three times. The staff is very hard to understand and communicate with so we made sure to repeat our orders several times. 20 minutes later we finally got the first appetizer, one that we didn't order, after explaining we didn't order it. It we proceeded to wait another 20 minutes for our garlic breadsticks. We got six plain pieces of bread and a small cold dish of marinara sauce to split between the table. When our food finally came out, the order was wrong. When I brought it to the staff's attention they corrected it, which was fine until I got the final bill and realized they had double charged me. The table to my right had to ask three times when their appetizer was coming out, and the table to my left received a crab which was already missing legs. The atmosphere is no better. This was a Valentine's Day meal, and there were customers watching NBA games on their cell phones live at the table. The server made no attempt to apologize or remedy any of the issues. We received one plastic fork for the table to share... For a meal that cost nearly $200, you would assume the experience would not have been as...
