Our cheesesteak nachos had to be remade twice due to daughter's allergy and them coming out with salsa and sour cream on them and not on the side as requested. The sour cream for our potato skins was separated and smelled spoiled/sour, server replaced that no issues. When the nachos finally came out (all toppings on a side plate) along with salsa and sour cream, I added salsa to my nachos on my plate and the tomato tasted weird, I smelled the salsa and it was rancid! Our server was Anai (she was excellent) at this point I asked her to send over the manager. Gus came over and was the WORST manager I've ever experienced in the food business. He didn't say hello, ask what's going on...he picked up the plate of nachos and said well I'm not remaking these again, we've already made them like 5 times, I don't know what you guys want, I've been serving salsa and sour cream all night with no issues, eat whatever else you want and walked away....no sorry or anything! After this I walked up to the server and asked if another manager was available and Ray came up behind me and asked what was goin on and took over, she comped the nachos and we wrapped up and left, tipping accordingly for the great server we had. I've been coming to Kaminski's since I was a kid, my husband is a chef and brother a server...I'm in total disbelief what just happened and how Gus handled it. I will also be calling Spiro or Billy to advise them of the situation we encountered. I'm not one to normally leave reviews, but I'm in total shock and pissed how Gus acted, like we were complaining just to get a free meal and that's not my mo at all. I understand everyone has bad days but when the kitchen made a mistake, the sour cream was spoiled and salsa rancid, that's outta my control and I'd expect it to be made right. Also to be clear the nachos came with a 2oz cup of sour cream (this was fine) the spoiled one was the 4oz that came...
Read more[Preface] I really wanted to like this spot and unfortunately didn't have a great experience. However everyone has a bad day and I'm willing to give this place another shot.
On the positive side: This place has a great atmosphere, brick oven for pizza, plenty of big screen TVs with all of your favorite games on. There is a fireplace in a covered/enclosed patio area and looks like they have live music as I noticed a band getting set up.
While there is a big bar with plenty of seats, I could tell this was a favorite spot for many as each seat was filled and the bar tenders knew most patrons by their first name. 🙌🏾
Regarding my experience: Unfortunately the server seemed like she didn't want to be bothered... When I asked about the rotating beer on tap, her response was "something surfer and I'm not sure what else" - I waited a moment and was perplexed that she didn't offer to go find out (so much for asking your server about seasonal or rotating beer, as the menus suggests LOL).. After the uncomfortable silence I decided to just grab a regular draft listed on the menu. 🤷🏾♂️
I asked the server for French onion soup without the bread inside the soup (as I didn't want soggy bread) - unfortunately I got a big piece of soggy bread that I had to fish out. Her response was "oops, sorry about that" and walked away... I decided to try their roast beef sandwich based on some previous reviews on Google - there was a nice portion of roast beef ; the au jus had good flavor but unfortunately it was kinda cold. It made for a kinda cold dry sandwich (unless I dipped it in the au jus).
However considering the positive atmosphere, the lively bar and understanding that everyone has a bad day sometimes, I'm willing to give this spot...
Read moreHaven't been to Kaminski's in decades after having spent many nights there in the late '70s and early 80's with my Gino's friends. Still as good and still as fun but wasn't there to play PacMan, Phoenix or Asteroids! Was there with a group of friends who are now in their 60's and above, LOL.
We were seated in a nice and quieter area where we could actually chat. I had requested that in the reservation I made. They were extremely nice on the phone with setting up the reservation and a birthday celebration for one of our party.
Our server, Carmen, was excellent. Friendly, attentive, on the mark with what we ordered and smiling all the time. Great job, Carmen. 4 of us had the legendary roast beef sandwich and it did not disappoint! All of us took the other half home. I also had the French Onion Soup crock and it was one of the best I have had. The broth was exceptional with great, robust flavor.
Others had shrimp tacos and falafel tacos and were very pleased. We also ordered appetizers which consisted of onion rings (fantastic, not greasy!) and the spinach artichoke dip. That's the only place where it fell down a bit. Would have liked the portion to be larger with more chips and the actual dip to be less chunky and smoother. But that was just our liking, of course.
They also helped us celebrate one of our party's birthdays with a slice of cake, candle and song. It was so nice and he was pleased albeit embarrassed (gotcha, Tim!).
All in all, a nice trip down memory lane and would definitely go back again. They have such interesting and varied menu items. Glad some things kind of...
