Mister Jim's is an original tenant of Wilson Village Shopping Center at the corner of South Battlefield Boulevard and Johnstown Road in Chesapeake. They have been a staple of the Great Bridge community since 1972. To stay in business for fifty years they have obviously been doing a lot of things right. They've managed to adapt with the changing times over the years and greatly expand their menu offerings from their original twelve items. They now offer everything from submarine sandwiches (including Philly-style), burgers, gyros and deli-style sandwiches, square pan pizzas, salads, boneless wings, appetizers and soft drinks to cookies and more.
They offer indoor dining at comfortable booths and outdoor dining at tables under cover of a roof. There is no table service indoors or out. You place your order at the counter then pick it up at the same counter after they notify you via pager it's ready. At my last visit there were no paper menus available but there are large LCD menu screens overhead. Staff is always friendly and professional. On my last visit, they were very busy and it took about thirty minutes for my order to be completed. I didn't complain because I could see how busy they were and how hard everyone was working. As the young lady handed me my subs she apologized for the delay and offered me a free cookie. I really appreciated the gesture and my wife and I really enjoyed the cookie.
I have patronized Mister Jim's many times over the years, mostly orders for delivery to my job but occasionally I'll swing by the restaurant and pick up something to take home. The food is always fresh and delicious. Some of my favorites are the Cajun Chicken Sub, Mister Jim's Special Sub, Tuna and Cheese Sub, Chesapeake Jubilee Sub, Sloppy Joe Sub and City Hall Burger. I also love the fresh cut fries and the onion rings. They have a nice variety of cookies, they are huge and really delicious. My favorite is the lemon blueberry cookie but I don't see it on the menu now so I don't know if they still offer it or not. Other cookies I love are the white chocolate macadamia nut and oatmeal raisin. Cookies are sold singly, in packs of three or by the dozen. They're all fresh and delicious.
While writing this review I realized I have never tried the pizza at Mister Jim's. I'm not sure why I've never tried it but it is something I will definitely...
Read moreWorst experience. Go somewhere else. I haven't eaten here in a while, but now I remember why I stopped. I placed my order at 1:58PM online for pickup, and I did not get my food until 2:35PM! I ordered online because I know it's slow sometimes at Mr. Jims (eating inside takes forever), but I didn't think it was going to be this bad for an online pickup. After I placed my order, I waited about 5-10 mins before leaving my house which is about 10 minutes away. When I arrived at Mr. Jims, I paid for my order, and they said it was not ready yet. (I know service is slow sometimes because it's made to order, so I waited - However, I was hoping it would be mostly done since I place this order 15-20 mins before I got there. After I paid, I sat down and waited in the waiting area. I saw another table finally get their food maybe 5 mins after I arrived, so I assumed mine was next. Between this time someone else placed their order and they were waiting. They eventually got their food and mine still wasn't done. I went to the counter to see what was going on and one of the girls at the front went to go check. My food was sitting back there for no telling how long. I got the food at, and it was cold, but I didn't feel like dealing with it so I went home. Personal though...Maybe the girls up front should be paying attention to someone sitting in the waiting area and check on their orders instead of playing around. When I got back home, my experience went downhill even more. I ordered 3 Mister Jim's Combinations. One was with hot peppers on the sub, one with sweet peppers on the sub with hot on the side and one with hot and sweet on the side (none on the sub). I wrote the note section of each sub, but they didn't even read it. I got two with hot and sweet on the sub and one with sweet on the sub. As mention above since they were cold, I had to Microwave them because they were cold. Now I remember why I stopped eating at this place in the first place....
Read moreI do love Mister Jims food, especially the fresh cut fries and sandwichs. Very disappointed in today's visit, we ordered food at 6:33, kids burger, kids chicken fingers, Mister Jim Sub and large cheese fries. Waited until 7:03 to ask where my food was since my kids were hungry and we have been watching other people who ordered behind us getting there food. I even seen orders that where taken 10 spots after us getting food. They said it will still be 5 more minutes because of a back up at the fryer. I asked for what ever food was already ready so the kids can eat and they said it is company policy only to give all food at the same time. I asked and received my refund, went across the street to Panera Bread and was eating within 5 minutes. I love supporting local but this was ridiculous, I even saw a look in the cashier's face who waited on us, looking in shock we haven't received our food yet as she went to investigate what was going on. A table of 6 adults next to our table, they ordered and sat down after us. I watched them get sandwiches and fries, even saw a to go order of cheese fries walk out the door right before I got up to ask where our food was.
As I was asking about my food and getting a refund, lady came up who I believe was from a table with 3 kids and 2 adults, who came in after us, ask the for the fries that were missing from there order. So I guess they do serve food without the entire order being ready.
The manager did say they were keeping the food warm as they waited for the fryer. Just don't understand why they couldn't give me the food while they waited. There was no line when I walked in, went straight up and ordered. I am assuming they screwed up and either dropped the ball on my order or gave it away by accident since all the people after us were enjoying their meal. It shouldn't take 40+ minutes for my order, nothing on it...
