I wanted to give this place 5 stars, and I will update/edit my review, if I find that I can give them more stars later. For now, I have to keep it at 3, and here's why- first time going here, we decided to grab dinner for the whole family to celebrate our son getting his permit. I know, not a typical, special occasion place, but it was last minute and this is what the boy wanted. The older gentleman and young lady working were so friendly, and happy to share their knowledge of the dishes with us. My husband talked to him about previously visiting Nepal and some of his favorite dishes there. The gentleman explained that this is more like their street food, which makes sense. We ended up getting a little bit of everything to share and a couple of falooda (rose) lassis. Everything was PHENOMENAL. The gentleman came to our table a few times to see how we liked everything and you could tell how much pride he had in seeing others enjoy a part of his culture. He was such a joy! The food was so good, we all found ourselves craving it about a week later. Without communicating it, my husband, son, and I all went in separately on our way home from engagements and eventually ended up at home with a bunch of momos. Ha! My darling husband even brought me a falooda lassi, unbeknownst to him that I had just got one. 🙂 Unfortunately, all 3 of us had a much different experience on that second trip. The older gentleman wasn't there, but instead a younger man in his early 20's. He wasn't friendly at all, seemed inconvenienced to be taking orders, and the falooda lassi that both my husband and I ordered within an hour of each other, wasn't falooda. There were chunks of mango and I think strawberry, definitely no hint of rose. The food was still good, but didn't taste as good as the first time. Maybe it was just disappointment we were tasting. Overall, the momos were just okay, but two wrong lassis and a staff member who isn't interested in providing good service and food, really sets the tone. I wish we could go back in and see the older gentleman and experience the pride in ownership, and forget the other experience. We'll still give them another chance because everyone has a bad day. If warranted, I'll update the...
Read moreFirst off the place was clean and the staff was friendly. So thats good.
I ordered 10 fried chicken dumplings with sesame sauce. They asked if I wanted to turn that into a combo, which includes a drink and their fries. I agreed. That came out to $14 and some change.
The food came out and looked nice. But everything was on or in plastic. Plastic plate, plastic ramekin for the sauce, plastic straw and wrapper, plastic cup, plastic silverware and wrapper, and a plastic bowl for the fries. I felt there was more plastic than food. In a sit down restaurant, there is no reason to have this much plastic that is just going to go into the trash. Also, if you advertise your food as gourmet, you really shouldnt be serving it with and on plastic.
The dumplings were ok. The dough wrapping was thin, but crisp and not soggy. The filling was minimal - Maybe a teaspoon and a half's worth tops. Without the sauce, they were bland. If my eyes were closed when I ate one, I wouldnt have been able to tell you what I was eating. The sesame sauce was... well... It tested more like curry than anything else. It was nothing special, but at least it gave the dumplings some flavor. The fries, were cubed into small 1/2 cubes and covered in some spices. Probably cumin and some others. They were decent, but a bowl was a bit much. I would have liked something to dip them into to give it more taste, as all you really tasted was the spice.
For $14 dollars and change, this was not worth the money. I suppose if the food was tasty, I could justify it somewhat, but then I would think that there was probably less than $1 worth of ingredients being served. I mean you could go to the grocery store and buy several pounds worth of frozen dumplings and still have change left to buy a...
Read moreOne of these restaurants opened up around the corner from my boyfriend’s place and we both thought it would be a good idea to go since we weren’t that hungry. We expected decent dumplings due to their pricing but we didn’t expect any less. We both ordered the chicken spicy dumplings but the “chicken” tasted absolutely like sausage for some reason. When I tried to look up the ingredients, all I could find on the official website were spices. Nothing about the dough or the fillings. Not on the menu either. The menu is very vague about what you’re ordering. We ordered them mild and made sure the woman taking our order heard us correctly because even though we both like spicy foods, we just weren’t in the mood for something too spicy. When we started eating they had to have used straight sambal because they were spicy. And I mean REALLY spicy. And there was so much sauce, as you ate the dumplings, it just got worse. I couldn’t even finish eating after the 6 out of the nine that I ordered. The dumplings were so soggy that when me or my boyfriend would go to pick one of the dumplings up with a fork, the dough on the outside would slide off the filling really easy. Based on the price of one order of nine spoon sized dumplings and their quality, I could have bought frozen ones from the grocery store and cooked them better than what I had at this restaurant. The experience was very disappointing and me and my boyfriend both were...
