Whole-Ly Rollers Bakery — Restaurant in Chesapeake

I found this place on Google when searching for a bakery to check out when I came in town for the holiday weekend. The pictures of the cinnamon rolls grabbed my attention, so I went to see if it was as good as the reviews said. When I walked in, I saw that there were cupcakes as well. When I asked if there was plain vanilla, I just got a very dry "no." The appropriate response would've been "no, but here's what we do have." I ordered my cinnamon rolls and paid. A couple of things happened that put me off from coming back. I asked if icing was included. "Yes," said the young lady who was working. When I got to the house, I saw that only one icing was included for two cinnamon rolls. Maybe that's the norm, but maybe that should be explained or changed so people aren't surprised when they get home. I also circled back around to the cupcakes as I checked out. I took the initiative to ask the question that should've been answered without me asking: what flavors DO you have? She mentioned a flavor that was interesting and I ordered one. Once again, the response was dry: "you can't just order one. Two is the minimum." I walked out and said I just want one...nevermind. I'm sure they were good, but what kind of place has a two cupcake minimum? You have to earn a two cupcake purchase, not require it. It was the principal that really disturbed me. I typically don't mind driving long distances to a good bakery, and I LOVE supporting black businesses with my own patronage and by sending my family and friends to support as well. The products that are in the case are delicious. I wouldn’t recommend pre-ordering for your special occasion. I visited them for the FIRST time on 8/22. I placed a order that was to be picked up on 8/24. I rode almost 30 miles to be told that they forgot part of my order which was an Apple pie. I forgave that because I realize that accidents do happen.

I placed another order for for two dozen pepperoni rolls and 6 cinnamon raisin buns on 8/28 that was to be picked up on 8/30. I called to check on my order at 12 noon. I was told that again part of my order was not ready because it was not entered on their log properly by their staff. I went to pick up the two dozens of pepperoni rolls. When I got there was only one dozen prepared. The guy stated that he could have it ready in 5 minutes.

Two mistakes back to back. Nothing was offered for my inconvenience. The only response I was given was “It seems that something always happens”. I feel that is unacceptable for an OWNER because she NEVER APOLOGIZED.

Today I traveled from va beach to visit this location to purchase a pie for a friend who said this business is closed on their days off. I arrived at 1 pm and asked the person working for a sweet potato pie. She was rude in her response and said something along the lines of “ were sold out like I just told the customer in front of you”. I didn’t hear what she told the customer in front of me because whatever they were discussing was not my concern. She then stated that I need to preorder pies to make sure they’re here when I come in store. Granted , I do understand that this business is open 8am-6pm but how is it half way through your business hours and you are out of products? One key aspect to a business where you are providing a product is to ample inventory which they do not. Between the poor customer service and the lack of products , I will not be traveling all that way...
