Was really let down by this place. Being the only sushi place around, it pales in comparsion to any place I have dined at before. The tea had no flavor not even sure what it was. The house salad, be prepared for only less than half a bowl of chopped lettuce and a drizzle of ginger dressing. Four small bites with chopsticks and it was gone.
I was very nervous about the rest of my meal at that point. The waiter was new, only on day three from what I could hear from his conversation with the other waiter that was unignorable. Instead of discussing the tasks of the job they talked about school and speculated what the tempura crunch was(maybe ask the chef). Was barely attentive, and i do feel bad for saying so since he is new to the job but seems extremely under experienced. You could barely hear the music which would have help to distract from the chatter.
When food arrived the first thing you see is the tiniest portion of wasabi I habe ever seen. Half the size of a dime. I am a avid wasabi user and most places nowadays do not add it to the rolls like they did 30 years ago. So I was greatly dismayed and did ask for more which was given, the waiter training my waiter could be over head saying how 'no one likes putting on gloves so we just do this.' Internally I cringed and did not want to look to see how this was done, hopefully with a utensil.
Next was the california roll that was well rolled but was a very simple assembly. Some places with add a touch of sesame or flying fish roe to the outside to lightly enhance the flavor. This lacked much flavor at all. It was a clean taste but without much note sadly.
Next was the eel cucumber roll. It was over sauced and was falling apart when lifted because of the over abundance of sauce breaking down the binding of the sushi rice. The eel was heavily sauced within the roll so it only need a drizzle of sauce zigzagged over it decoratively. Sadly, you couldnt taste the eel or the cucumber past the sauce. I love eel and it made my heart hurt. Lastly, was the piece of octopus. This was the sadest part. I love octopus. It is my absolute favorite. And it was a disaster. Either it was old produce or ill prepared. The meat SHOULD have a solid bite to it with slight resistance, light chewy and meaty texture that is slightly salty remenicent of the ocean from which it lives. This had none of this. The meat was soft with no real texture. The skin was so tough I kept chewing and chewing....but it was inedible. I have never had remove food from my mouth in this manner and discard it. I was so embarrassed. Had had to have one last glass of watery tea to make sure it was down.
Highly disappointed. Will likely never return and tell everyone I know and my husband to steer his clients clear of this place. This is the second time i have been here, the first being mediocre or I thought I qould give it one last try. I regret it 100%.
It seems like they are skimping out of the most basic staples of a sushi restaurant. The cheapest items that can greatly enhance thoer food and make it more than just the bland fare I recieved and over dosing on the more expensive sauce that may have been watered down to make it feel like you are getting more when less is more.
I pray they can turn it around and maybe the owners and veteran staff with take on the training of their new employees. One lady from the back came out and just sat watching home make over shows. It makes me wonder how long the help wanted sign was up for and it explains why the place was...
Read moreThe sushi is consistently excellent, and getting the Sushi Dinner entree (a generous portion of chef-selected pieces, plus your choice of tuna or California rolls) for ~$15, along with a few favorite ala carte pieces, ends up being significantly less expensive than a similar quantity of sushi pretty much anywhere else. The only minor drawback is not having control over what the chefs choose, but it's always a solid assortment, and the slight sense of mystery about what they'll send out is vaguely exciting (it's always one piece of each variety, so don't worry about getting lowballed with a plate full of the absolute cheapest thing possible).
As for the location itself, it's a humble spot in a strip mall. Don't expect anything fancy. All the budget in this place seems to be focused on offering the best food possible, alongside excellent service. Once in a great while, a single piece of sushi from one of my orders gets missed (it happens--I don't consider something like this the end of the world), and I've never had trouble getting things sorted out.
We've also ordered carryout sushi several times (yes, you can do that--the full menu is available), and the process was painless and the orders were filled accurately.
We've been going to Wuri every few months or so since it opened a few years ago, and I can't remember ever being disappointed. In that time, others in the neighborhood have discovered it, and while I've never seen it so full you couldn't get in, the place seems to have steady business, which indicates my positive experience is typical. It's a popular date spot, I've noticed, so if you're looking for that sort of thing, as long as a fancy venue isn't a requirement, you should absolutely...
Read more4.25 for the Food. Subtract 1.25 for customer service etiquette: very poor mannerisms. I have been to this establishment about 6x; Of those 6 visits 2 x the California rolls were made incorrectly, this time I said something.
On my visit I specifically asked for 2-3 soy sauces because that's what it takes for 3 rolls (12) when sauce cups are filled 1/4 the way up. I additionally asked for the same thing when I arrived to make sure I had enough. When I arrived home I realized there was 1 soy cup and the California rolls were bland and nearly tasteless. I looked at them and there was just a piece of imitation crab in the center with cucumber splinters; California rolls have a blended crab mix. Anyways I called them up and they agreed to remake.
On arriving to pickup the remade sushi, I was greeted by every employee staring me down as if I was lying. You might think its all in my head right, well, then 2 of the girls huddled around me as they asked me to open the box and verify what it was. The dishonest cook must have told them he prepared the food correctly and that "I was lying," that's all I can gather. Anyways check your stuff here. The time before this the order was incorrect also.
I don't complain a lot but my reviews are honest. My advice to Wuri is " its time to have a...
