First off, major props for this restaurant being open on the Fourth of July. I was looking for somewhere to take my partner on a date and we were running into one closed restaurant after another. Then, I looked online and saw Railspur was one of the few restaurants open so I was pretty happy because I've been wanting to try Railspur out for a long time so it all worked out. There are more positives than negatives that came with my first time eating here but the negative is a rather big one for me. So I'll start with the positives. I really liked the vibe here. It's kind of a "trendy" type of place but it was cool and a pretty chill environment. I liked the design of the inside of the restaurant from the cool art on the walls to the string lights lining the walls and upper areas. I was very impressed with the food and how quickly it came out. It felt like we got our food within 10 minutes from when we ordered it. It was really quick and everything was cooked just right so kudos to the cooks. I got a bacon cheeseburger and it was one of the best bacon cheeseburgers I've had at a restaurant in a long time. Something that stuck out to me is what they did with the bacon. Most restaurants put bacon strips on their burgers but Railspur chopped the bacon up and put it on the burger and I loved that!! My partner was also very impressed and pleased with her food as well. She got the Carne Asada tacos and they were amazing! So it's obvious the food definitely exceeded our expectations. Another positive about this restaurant was the price at the end. It's very affordable. Well, now time to get to the negative aspect of my visit here. Service is a big deal to me and the service here left a lot to be desired. There were times I was just very confused with the service. To start with getting seated and then getting our order taken was smooth. The two people who did come to our table were friendly. But those visits to our table were very few and far between. The communication was very limited. Usually at a restaurant, a server tends to visit a table either too much where it's bothersome, not enough times, or just the right amount of check-ins. Well with this restaurant we barely had anyone check on us at all. The whole drink part was confusing. My partner and I ordered water for our drinks and they were served in very small cups so it was a given that we were going to go through them quickly. Well, we kept getting blank stares from a few employees and I happened to notice a big beverage dispenser of water at the bar so we just decided to refill our cups ourselves. The same thing happened with ketchup. We got our ketchup from a table next to the bar because our server didn't ask us if we needed any condiments. We weren't sure if this was just a part of the experience of the restaurant where you help yourself but it was odd. If we were to help ourselves at least communicate that to us in the beginning. I'm not one to chase down a server because I feel they should check us a little more than they did. I'm not sure if it was because it was a holiday and things were too lax but the whole service experience was weird. Other than the service I enjoyed my experience, with the food and the chill atmosphere being my top highlights for sure. Overall, I give this restaurant 4.5 stars. They are very close to 5 stars because the amazing food alone was 5 stars. I would definitely like to try this place out again on a regular night, not on a holiday and see if they were just having an off night with...
Read moreThe primary business of this place is a bar, so that is the standard by which I’m judging it. I’ve never been there on a Friday or Saturday night because, people. People are stupid. Don’t know how busy it is then, but I hope the joint is jumping, alas this is Cheyenne so I doubt it. Anytime I’ve visited here (5 or 6 times) the staff has always been friendly AF. The drinks have always been top notch. However I will admit my disappointment on my last visit when I learned that they don’t carry a decent scotch. Not even a Glenlivet 12. Johnny Walker red was as good as they had and anyone who drinks scotch can tell you Johnny Walker red is complete and total ass, really more of a mixer. I don’t really look at prices so I can’t speak to them. Bougie statement I know, but I’m not one of the poors so…. Anyway, on to the reason for this review. Tacos. Tacos are life. Yes, I’m a gringo but the Mexicans are my favorite people so I feel like that should count for something. Now I’ve been to Mexico on countless occasions. So many that I’ve literally lost count. I’ve lived many years down in Texas and New Mexico both. The Birria tacos here are the best tacos I’ve ever had and the thing is, it’s not even close. To use the term orgasmic would be no word of an over estimation and the dipping sauce that they come with looks like the wrong end of a dog but tastes like Gods personal gift to your mouth hole. The owners of this place opened a bar that served a bit of food on the side. If they aren’t careful their going to find themselves owning a full fledged restaurant. So in closing I’ll tell you this, there are definitely worse places to chose from to get a drink and a bite to eat. As far as the Birria tacos go, thems the best things I’ve ever shoved in my mouth, and I’ve shoved a lot of things...
Read moreWe went in for their 2-5pm happy hour and had a couple of their signature cocktails that were down to $9. The Old Fashioneds were great! We also had the margarita but didn't care for that too much. It was a little bit too tart and there was way too much salt on the rim that fell into the drink and made it salty.
The atmosphere is great. They added shipping containers to the upstairs as private event rooms. They aren't closed off but they separate you from the rest of the people. It looks like you can only go up there if you have a large party.
During the weekdays they have special events planned. We showed up too late for that but it looked like it was about $75. You could make pasta or we saw one where you can make tortillas & salsa with a group. It seems like a really neat idea to get people to come into the bar during the week. Next time we're up in Cheyenne, we are going to try an event.
We didn't try any food as we had eaten somewhere else prior to showing up, but the tacos appeared to be very popular. Our bartender, we didn't get his name, was very friendly. We were telling him about our plans for the day and he started to make recommendations of places for us to go. He was very nice.
We've driven by this place a few times over the years and never wanted to go in. I highly recommend you go in and at least try it once and try to hit their happy hour because...
