Beatrix Loop — Restaurant in Chicago

Really nice atmosphere and the food is delicious; however, service was not represented the same for my party. Here in Chicago celebrating a birthday and thought this would be a nice place try. We were initally told there was a full reservation list on a Thursday at 5pm, while looking at atleast 6-7 empty tables. We asked for a later reservation anyway and waited, only to be approached and told there were a lot of cancellations. Once seated, about 10 minutes later Nick came to take our orders. We placed the order and from that point on he NEVER came to check on us. It would not have been an issue if he maintained that behavior with his other guests...BUT he was very attentive to them. My party and I watched as he checked in with other patrons, refilled their glasses, and provided the service we did not receive. Maybe there was an assumption that 2 brown women would be poor tippers, well he orchestrated a self-fulfilling prophesy. I will never provide a monetary tip to someone who does not provide appropriate and fair service. However, I do have a tip...TREAT...

I always want to like Beatrix more than I do. Pleasant atmosphere and interesting menu. That's the draw. But the food prep and seasoning never quite does it for me. Just alright in the end, so I don't go back for another 6 months. This time, the fries were a little too salty, the chicken meatballs needed something to brighten them up and the sauce didn't do it. Tortilla soup was a pretty good, mildly spicy, tomato soup - the clear winner on this visit. In the end, it is an adventurous and upgraded family restaurant/coffee shop and it delivers on that. And in that context the dishes that seem to promise more excitement than they deliver make perfect sense. Good fresh juice, coffee and baked goods, which also fit...

Writing this review pains me as a long term lover of Beatrix. I purchased a breakfast cruffin this AM and unfortunately found a piece of a rubber band inside. After seeing it, I couldn’t brush past it and had to throw out my breakfast. Hair is slightly more understandable but I don’t understand how a rubber band made its way into a baked good, especially considering it wasn’t small to the common eye.
