I stumbled upon Blackwood BBQ by accident and I’m glad I did! I could smell the smoke from the sidewalk and I instantly knew I hit the jackpot! I grabbed a pulled pork sandwich with a side of baked beans, and chose the Chicago sweet and spicy as my sauce of choice. The pulled pork sandwich was meaty and oh so flavorful!!! I ordered an extra side of sauce just to dip my sandwich in! I ordered my food to go but decided to sit down to take a bite of my food since I had time. The dining room was clean and not too overcrowded!
Here’s my honest review from a professional foodie:
Flavor: 10/10 no dispute there! Portions: 7/10 I had to dock 3 points for the teeny weeny amount of sides. 😩 I mean, this is what I consider a sauce cup… (Please increase the size to a 6 oz. White Double Poly-Coated Paper Food Cup with Vented Plastic Lid)
Variety gets 7.5/10 I was also disappointed when I didn’t see any ribs, burn ends/rib tips, or smoked chicken on the menu.
Overall, I definitely will be back to try the brisket and cop another pulled pork sandwich, but I won’t be ordering any sides considering the price I paid and the portion size-I feel cheated😩 ($14.09)
(Although the portions were small, the flavor of the beans were great).
If you’re in the mood for quality smoked flavorful meats, check them out but don’t expect quality size sides to go...
Read moreOh lawdy. I'm addicted to this place. I've had breakfast there 3 times in the past two weeks. Both the pork and brisket are good enough to not need sauce, but the sauce just puts it over the top. Can't get here during lunch, but I pass it every morning on my way out of the station. I'm not a spicy-loving person, but I'll take the Chicago sauce over the Memphis sauce. Has just enough kick to really get the flavor going.
Staff is personable and energetic. Casual atmosphere. Food is cheap. Breakfast wrap/bowl is (currently) $6. For the amount you get, it's a steal, especially for the taste. If meat isn't your thing, they have you covered with a jackfruit option.
It takes a lot to impress me for breakfast. I'm a bit of a breakfast sandwich connoisseur, if I do say so. Am I going overboard here? Maybe. If you haven't tried it, it's definitely...
Read more4 star potential, 2 star execution. Brisket is flavored good with decent, flavorful bark but was barely warm. Beans were cold and dry, several hours old at least. Good sauce choices but should all come on side at customers' discression, not on the meat at plating. Staff was loudly talking about personal things, not hospitable as other eateries in the area. The music didn't match environment and was at volume 8 at minimum. You could tell they were getting ahead of closing duties up even though they still had over an hour until closing time. That's where the focus was not on customers. Seemed to lack leadership. On a good day might give Texas brisket a run but needs a lot of...
