This was my first time coming here and I wasnât too impressed. I was looking for a nice coffee shop to stop at after just getting in to town. Came here because it looked nice. Was greeted by a not so friendly girl who seemed rushed. I ordered the egg and cheese biscuit and an espresso and she asked for my name for the order, I assumed they would call my name when it was ready, they did not. They guy in the kitchen only called my sandwich once he made it and let it sit there u til I had to inquire about it. My espresso was served in a glass shot glass instead of a standard espresso cup and when I asked if I could get it in a regular cup they gave me an attitude about it, so I just took it the way it was. The espresso itself was not that great either, it was too bitter for my liking, and I order an espresso every day. To top off my experience here, it was extremely cold inside. Their front door is broken and stays open allowing the cold air to blow in. Simple resolution, but obviously not a concern of theirs. I would not suggest this place to anyone looking to study or work while having a coffee. I left after about 15 mins and went to another, warmer and more welcoming...
Read moreThis was the second stop on my local Chicago coffee adventure, and was unable to find the place on the first try. The entrance at 343 Dearborn is a revolving door to a building with many tenants, and the lady at the front desk happily guided me to Dollop. The entrance is actually at the intersection of Plymouth and Van Buren, and hopefully this helps out the other first-timers.
The air was cool outside, but it was a bit warm after passing through the door. I was pleasantly greeted upon approaching the counter, and upon asking, was shown the pour overs being served. Now, Dollop doesn't roast their own coffee, but they do utilize beans roasted by Metropolis Coffee, also located in Chicago.
I ordered a pour over and had a seat in one of the well stuffed chairs near the entrance. After getting acclimated to the heat in the room, it was a pleasant experience. A few minutes later I was consuming a delicious hot beverage. Once finished with my coffee, I returned to the counter and ordered an espresso, which was promptly crafted and ready. I was a tad disappointed it was a single shot, but it was...
Read moreAfter attempting to order a lavender latte (they were out of the syrup), then a cardamom latte (also out of that syrup), I settled on the Salted Caramel latte. It was bland and honestly tasted like something out of a QuickTrip coffee machine. I also ordered a Rosemary Honey pastry, which was delicious! Despite the lackluster coffee, the service was good and the two female baristas that I interacted with were very friendly and welcoming!
They do not accept cash, which I've noticed more and more businesses doing and I don't like it one bit. It's discriminatory. What if I'm a person that for one reason or another is unable to obtain a credit or debit card but I have cash and want a hot cup of coffee? You won't accept my business because of my socioeconomic status, despite me actually having money to pay for your product and service? I urge businesses to stop with the "No Cash" thing. WE ARE NOT ROBOTS, stop trying to digitize every single thing. And again, empathize with those that may not have plastic to pay for things, but have the cash.
I would not return to this cafe based on...
