Had some friends over and we decided to take a stroll through Grant Park. After? Well drinks and a light dinner was in order and one of them was staying at the Hilton and mentioned wanting to try O'Sheas. So we strolled across the street to try it out.
For being in a Hilton I figured hey, they have to be good. Also it's an Irish bar and I LOVE Irish bars for the food (drink selections as well as they usually have great cider choices.) Also the Hilton is known for great service.
On the appetizer list we tried the wings as well as the fried pickles and cheese curds. The wings were a bit bland though the fried pickles and curds were fantastic. A 50/50 sign on how the meal would be but with how much we enjoyed the pickles and curds we figured we were gonna luck out.
Around the table were orders of fish and chips and the burger which were all pretty bland sadly. I don't know what else to say. They weren't bad they just seemed to be lacking from what everyone was expecting.
All I can say is at least they had bottles of Magners. One of my ciders of choice. It would have been better if it was on tap but hey, at least that part was enjoyable. Of course, that was until it was time for a second round. Also it was a little pricey compared to half the other places we could have gone in the area that had Magners.
Overall, not a...

The servers are AMAZING. The atmosphere is AMAZING.
The food is terrible- at least the steaks. We got so tired of shepherds pie because that’s pretty much the only really yummy entree.
We hate sending food back but the three times we went here this trip it was crazy bad.
Asked for steak a certain temp because we know the kitchen here is on the struggle bus. Like a 5° range. Not a perfect exact temp. Just enough to get the kitchen to understand hey medium rare!!
The first steak was RAW. Barely BLUE. I was nervous to send it back because it’s easy to ruin a steak warming it up. It returned to us very very well done. And tough. It was a crime against steak because it truly had been a glorious cut of meat. It was just basically tartare and that’s not what we prefer.
Second steak was well done.
We gave up.
Second visit this trip same thing - all super well done. While standing there waiting for a pick up order. We were there one hour.
Make your life easy - Go to the 720 at the other end of the hotel - where the bar is. Much higher quality steaks for less money and prepared...
Read moreAs an Irishman, I have a fair idea of semi sensible ‘Irish’ themed bars. Now the place did look the part, and the beer selection was nice and sensible as it should be.
Wait staff although fairly attentive in part, just appeared to lack any real care or passion for their work.
The food was the ultimate down fall, I ordered what was know as a disassembled Shepard’s pie. Essentially the ingredients were all independent, that does certainly remove the joy of the flavours infusing in the oven. And there just wasn’t enough potato, in fact not enough of anything, the dish was small. My nine year old daughter would eat more than that.
Ultimately and what made it worse, the food was served stone cold. Not just the so called Shepard’s pie, my partners Mac cheese was stone cold too. Upon complaining to the wait staff about the temperature of the food, they simply put it in the microwave (the part eaten elements of the dish were still present after warm up). That’s just unacceptable.
Chicago is home to some great Irish bars, this one is certainly for the folks unfamiliar with how good our...
