Whether you're waiting on a table or getting it to go your need to try everything on this menu!! We happened upon this place because it's so gawd awful trying to get around Chicago... but I'm so glad we did! My youngest got one of their slider cheeseburgers (double pattie) and my oldest had been craving a chili cheese dog which of course they had and she loved. My mother and I both got the Chicago Dawg, her without the sport peppers because she's not a spice queen but the joke was on her because they use the Vienna spicy sausage...phenomenal! I'm from Ohio where we only eat hot dogs at cookouts and baseball games with your basic ketchup, mustard, and relish (if you were born before 2000) to top it off. Now I want all the toppings on every hot dow or sausage I eat from here on out! We also split one of their regular Italian Beef with sweet peppers, shared a bucket of fries, and each got a different milkshake to wash it all down.
I always ask locals about the best places to go for certain things outside of tourist traps and DD wasn't on the list but I knew I was in the right place for this simple but delicious local food staple when I looked up and saw a picture of Anthony Bourdain eating at Devil Dawgs hanging...
Read moreI just left Devil Dawg in the South Loop without any food. Apparently, English is not spoken in this particular restaurant.
Here is what happened:
I went to the register to place my order. The Hispanic guy at the counter pointed to the register saying it's not working. He then pointed to the kiosk. Meaning order over there.
I asked him if the original slider is double or a single burger. He had NO clue what I was talking about. So, I asked the Hispanic young lady behind the counter. She had NO clue what I was talking about either.
I then asked the guy is there anyone here that speaks English. He LAUGHED and said no. Really. That's funny.
I went to the kiosk to place my order, at the end, it wanted me to insert my card versus sliding it. I couldn't figure out where to insert my card, yes I'm a senior. I asked a customer to help me. He tried as well and did something that canceled my order.
At this point, I just left and went to another fast food place.
Devil Dawg how can you have no one on the premises that speaks English and English is the first language in Chicago? It doesn't make sense to me.
My grandson was disappointed he didn't get his food. But...
Read moreTheir Very Veggie Burger is one of, if not, THE best veggies burger in the Chicago land area! So addictive that when I first discovered it I would go out of my way into the city center area dispite living in the suburbs. Definitely recommend getting with the House Mayo. The Classic and Clucker are really good as well - They are the only Chicken Sandwiches I still buy after swearing them off post a string of bad experiences with them elsewhere! Fries are well seasoned as well - another item I usually don't get many other places, but don't mind from here. And can't forget the milkshakes! Thick, delicious, and with many interesting varieties. You'll be tempted to slurp them down instantly- which I recommend you do because they aren't as good after melting.
Cons: Takes a while for the food to get ready- especially the veggies burger, but not something I dock points on when the food is good. What does knock some points is that almost everytime I buy any sandwhich and ask for sauce on the side they never end up putting...
