The BAD
DO NOT DEPEND ON THE WIFI IT SUCKS !!!! 1 The library computers are outdated by at least 2 years. You need to wait at least 10 minutes to sign on to the system. The anti virus software is the cheap generic the kind you download for free. I believe it is called IVG. The library is also not open past 10pm including during finals or midterms.
2 The elevator call buttons lights do have not turned on, since I've started 3 terms ago.
3 Mr.Brooks, Dr. Muller, Mr. Brosch are great professor take their classes for English, Business, and Social Studies.
#4 If you are in the mlitary it's hit or miss if your professor will give you an extension on work when called away from training. I was gone for 2 weeks due to National Guard annual training and 2/3 of my professors caught me up really quick. The 3rd didn't care and the assignments I turned in were counted as late. In the end I got straight As so I wasn't bother but still it bothered me. This is more on the individual professor not the school.
#5 There is no real school spirit,or greek life.
#6 The school is not very reputable no one knows where East West is. Certain professors, clerks and high up university staff have advised transferring "unofficially."
7 I've done night and day class in the Fall Winter and Summer. The student population differs slightly every year. Summer school is filled with alot of freshman, and students from other colleges taking easy summer courses. Fall term like other schools usually kicks a lot of people out. Winter and Spring term are usually the best as far as class social structures there are no jackass and everyone is friendly.
The Good
This place has very good security. My first day I was lost and one of the guards went out of his way to help me. The guards are also students, they are not macho and very friendly and professional. They are always doing patrols of the buildings and I never see them slacking off.
Most of the students are older I'm 25 and I'm about average age. In night classes professors show a lot of flexibility.
It's downtown and easy to get to. Their are stores restaurants and a gym within walking distance. It's right across the street from millennium park.
The advisors and finical aid reps are very nice. Make sure to always check in with them so they know your face. You never know when you might need something.
Most of the school population is male. There are few women. I understand that school is for learning but it would be nice in my advertising class if i could have a women's perspective on product placement.
East West is very affordable. It's cheaper then UIC. You can do 4 terms in a year, on the other hand it would take you 2 years at UIC.
My own honest opinion. The school is fine it could be better but it could be worse. The class sizes are very small I think I've only have one class over 25 students. Like most schools you have good professors and bad ones. Most I've met are fine, one of my "science" teachers made fun of the class for not knowing basic cell anatomy. Most of us were in our mid to late 20s and hadn't been in school. He just skipped over the chapter and said don't worry about it. That struck me as pure laziness. I like that fact that I know alot of the students because of the small class sizes. Overall I'd give the school a C+. Nothing special, I will not be graduating from here I will be transfer to...
Read moreIf you are looking to come here I would just do an associates degree (but u rather go to community college). IF YOU ARE TRANSFERRING WITH AN AA DEGREE make sure you DO NOT fully trust them when they say they “accepted” your transfer credits!! ASK 4 a degree program sheet (shows exactly what you need to graduate) and the classes u have already received credit for.
I know someone who transferred here & they did not input her credits correctly & she received/took 34 extra credits!! (refused to refund tuition as well) SMH. If you come here be VIGILANT with staff when it comes to your credits & classes.
If you are not on a scholarship here please look elsewhere. There’s literally no amenities here no fridge or anything for students who commute here(some come from Lake county) & bring lunch etc yet there is no where to store it. No lockers for students (only athletes) if you find a locker & use a lock they will cut it off & let someone else use it.
There is no homecoming here or any types of spirit weeks, no clubs, there is no amenities or sense of “college life” literally feels like a community college with a “private university”...
Read moreThe school is what you make it out to be. Honestly, I think it's an all right place. It needs more students AND visibility, and it seems like it is going in that direction. However--you can't just go to this school and expect it to cater to you. If you want something--Greek Life, a club, activities--all you have to do is step up and talk to the folks in charge. It's not that hard. Other than that, it's a nice school with a good set of teachers who care about what they do. Like any school, there are a few rotten apples. I mostly heard stories and never got them for my classes. I think if more people knew about it, and folks gave it a chance, it would be just as good as any other school in the area--for a LOT less than...
