My boyfriend and I just had an overall bad experience here. We wanted to escape the busy street and lines going out the door to all the bars on Hubbard friday night, so we figured we would have some drinks at this sports bar to end our night. We get in and decide to grab a beer at the bar, then grab a table to sit at. Not even five minutes in, we're told by a male server that we need to move and sit at the rail because we brought our beer at the bar and that he makes his money on these tables, then walks away. We honestly didn't even know there were servers, otherwise we would've just opened a tab through one of them. Most bars we've been to at 1am in the morning typically don't. So we just excused his rudeness and sat at the rail, which is conveniently in the way of people playing at the pool table, so we sat closer to the edge. We're minding our own business and have our friends meet us up at this bar. We probably were at this bar for a good half hour to 45min when we got yelled and cursed out by a second server! This female was legit going off on us saying we were too close to one of her tables and this is how she makes a f@&!in living! Mind you, the bar was pretty empty for a Friday night. There were plenty of open tables. Even if we were too close to this specific table, there were plenty of other tables she could have sat her customers at. My bf got upset, told her we're f@&!in leaving, and we left. We've never been treated so rude, especially when we were paying customers and were considering on getting a few more rounds with our friends. If this is how this place treats their customers, i wouldn't be surprised if they shut down. But i do have to say that the bouncer/doorman and the GM were extremely awesome. We told them about our experience and they sincerely apologized and tried to have us come back inside. But at that point, we just didn't want to be around those rude servers or give them anymore of our money. The servers definitely need to be retrained on their customer service or find...
Read moreLooking at reviews and photos, I'll let you know right now my experience was more limited to St. Patrick's Day weekend. If you're trying to find a place to go on a regular night, skip my review. If you're looking to go here during a big event, read on.
We came into Mother Hubbard's after Theory closed early. I had zero expectations before walking in, but what I experienced walking through the door was like something out of a college frat movie. It was shoulder-to-shoulder early 20s crowd, so dense and deep the main bar was invisible. I actually didn't realize there was a main bar until we were about to leave. Along the left side of the room was the clogged arterial movement of people bumping and grinding back and forth from the back relief bar and the front door. Swept away with the crowd, we pushed in to the relief bar and ordered. Those poor women behind the counter were getting slammed, looking like desperate liquid DJ's in the world's worst boiler room rave. While waiting we thankfully met a delightful British couple and found a nook to tuck into. The music was so loud we were screaming the entire night, which is to be expected, but given the environment it made it exponentially harder to socialize. Not a good place to go to meet new people. A couple people in our group went to the bathrooms and said they were some of the worst they'd ever seen in public in their lives. Wouldn't recommend going to this place during any big city events.
I would like to try this place again during a...
Read moreOverall, I have enjoyed this gem for its' dive-sports bar atmosphere which is a rare sight in River North. The late night hours always have me returning after the 2am bars/clubs in the area close.
However, my experience last night really made me question who they employ. I ordered two rounds at the bar over the course of 30mins and took them to our table to enjoy. A very unprofessional, rude, and blunt waitress came up to us and informed us that we had to order from her. To our surprise, we apologized and agreed to do so. The lack of service during a rather slow night shocked our table that we even had a waitress. 25 minuets went by as we were ignored by said waitress waiting to order another round of drinks. We attempted to flag her down, but to our dismay she decided to chat with security, take shots with co-workers, and sit at other tables on her phone.
Our thirst overcame us as we decided to return to the bar, as the speedy service was far better than what we received from our "waitress." As we are enjoying our drinks, she had the audacity to return to us and state, "security will kick you out if you do not stop taking up table space." At this point in the night it was 2:30am on a Sunday night, there was ample table space throughout the bar. I thankfully did not catch her name, because if I did the owner would be informed of her poor work ethic and lack of...
