I'd like to first of all start by saying that this comment is almost 5 months overdue as I had the absolute pleasure of having my wedding reception here in October. As a self-proclaimed "laid back perfectionist" (what?), I can say with absolute certainty that having our wedding reception at One North was one of the best choices we made during our wedding planning process. We were taken care of from the minute our initial inquiry was emailed to Jude Abella, the Director of Events/Event Coordinator, to the final touches that we didn't even notice until weeks after the wedding with her saving the corks used for the champagne toast in a box we later opened. Jude made sure every detail - big or small - was successfully executed to a T. Her attention to detail completely exceeded my expectations including, but not limited to, making herself available to us when needed, offering helpful checklists each and every step of the way, staying on top of our vendors and even getting to know us on a personal level to make sure the night was a sincere reflection of us. In an initial discovery period she even found out that my guilty pleasure is... (wait for it) cheese fries. Her and her staff figured out which ones were my favorite in this great city of ours, and One North's phenomenal chef/magician, Laura Piper, recreated them to an even better version of my favorite (sorry 'boutcha DMK) which were then served towards the end of the evening when everyone could use a little fries+cheese+bacon+sour-cream+green-onion action. While I'm on the topic of food, we all know wedding food is historically...not great. So, shame on me for expecting ours to follow suit in the mediocre wedding food category. Chef Piper and Jude worked within our expectations and budget to deliver a few different meal options that were OUTSTANDING (Yes, the caps were necessary.) I can't tell you how many different people stopped me during the reception to sing praises about the food. To quote one of my dad's friends, "I felt like I was at a 5 star restaurant for dinner and a night out in the city". My husband and I are definitely foodies and the meals Chef Piper created and prepared were flavorful, fresh, unique, gorgeous and delicious. The rest of the management staff and waitstaff were professional and ‘on it’. The cocktails were not that of what you'd expect at a wedding; from perfectly executed old fashions to ice cold martinis and our favorite craft beers. The management team made it known that they were available to us should we need anything at all during the evening and we felt extremely well taken care of. I really and truly could go on and on, but I'm sure at this point the only people still reading this post are that of Jude, Chef Piper and the other wonderful One North staff. Thank you Thank you Thank you for making the most important day of our lives memorable, beautiful and perfect. -...
Read moreThis place is rude and deceitful with their pricing/menu/happy hour! First of all the website for One North clearly states there is happy hour from 3-8, M-F. It should also be noted the menu online is NOT the happy hour menu they offered: their only "drinks" were a $10 glass of a bottom shelf red/white/rose or a $10 old fashioned or manhattan. The happy hour food menu was also the same price as the regular menu with a few taco and fries options not on the regular menu. We order 4 tacos, a glass of wine, and a manhattan. When the bill comes we find we have been way overcharged for the tacos and the manhattan (by about $10). Our waiter was pretty rude and inattentive from the get-go but his demeanor did not change when we pointed out the mix-up. About three staff members came over and yelled at us "did you get the happy hour menu" in a very accusatory tone. Uh, clearly we which is how we ordered the happy hour items and also how we know the prices. We also have, you know, the menu. They say something like, "not everyone gets happy hour" and were very stand-offish and confrontational. It is both on the website, and on the menu (yes we were there in the correct timeframe) so....what??? The lead waiter starts to argue with us about pricing and addition so we whip out a calculator to prove our point, referencing the menu prices. The lead aggressively grabs the bill and goes to the register where she takes about 10 minutes, huddling with another staff member. She brings back a corrected bill which....is still wrong. We are still over charged. From the get-go the staff was rude, inattentive, and egotistical. We don't go to dinner expecting to be confronted, argued with, and over-charged from the stated prices. Absolutely shameful behavior and it was never answered...why offer happy hour if you will not actually let customers use it? The whole experience was very shady...
Read moreOkay, this might be a bit low considering everyone else's experience in the reviews so far, but here's why I'm probably not coming back:
I came here on a Friday about 4pm and ordered two of the cheddar burgers. They did not have any taste to them. It felt like they lacked Adobo or any seasoning that night. I ordered medium well and the ends came out super burnt. So with each bite was a burnt taste. I was pretty hungry so I ate it anyway.
The place is a bit pricey and days later I, which I haven't done in years went to get a Whopper with cheese at Burger King. Flavor was amazing and I kicked myself for eating such a bland expensive burger days earlier.
Sometimes the most expensive experience isn't the tastiest.
The drinks were okay. I'm from Pilsen so I probably prefer the bars around here for nice mixed drinks at better prices.
The decor was nice though, no complaints from the service.
But I won't be remembering this place as a place...
